King Ólaf I (5 August 1290 - 1361) was a famous Icelander King.
Birth and Early life[]
Born on the August 5 in 1290 to Snorri Ólafsson and Freyja Ársælsdóttir. He was apart of the Icelandic Upper Class and he got a great education and was quickly apart of the Elite.
Independence[]
While his grandfather was begin an Independence Hero and leading the Republic he was writing books and served a year in the Military, but after his Grandfather and Father died he became an alcoholic and lost it but turned to the Church.
Political Career[]
Even though he didn’t go for Clergy life he was elected to Althingi and sponsored the policies of Arnar and Ari, when Ari resigned another member of Althingi said Ólafur should be King. He was elected and took the throne 1333. He has been using the money from the previous Governments to continue their policies and also build Cultural monuments.
