History[]
Establishment[]
In 878 AD the last Visigothic King of Hispania, Alaric V was overthrown and the Visigothic Kingdom was replaced by the Kingdom of Visigonia, which quickly became decentralized, however while on the run Alaric fled to the court of Richard I of Aquitaine, he promised that in return for Richard's support to restore him to the throne of Hispania, he would grant Richard the city of Barcelona, Richard happily obliged, however the Aquitanian army was defeated near Valencia in 879 by King Peter of Visigonia, however Peters follow up invasion into Barcelona was a disaster, both Richard and Peter then agreed to peace, as Peter needed to contain the encroaching Moorish Empire to his south, in return for peace Richard was granted Barcelona, while Alaric fled to Francia.
