Established under the guidance of the Kingdom of Sardinia (or more properly, its excellent Prime Minister) and years of struggles, the Kingdom of Italy is finally the fulfillment of years of Italian nationalism: a unified Italian nation-state, no longer part of several rivalling foreign powers or a set of disunited city-states. Italy's main supporters were Prussia (until her defeat against Austria) and France, while her greatest threat is the Apostolic Confederation to the North and East ("Italy is only a geographical region"). Moreover, nationalism is strong, as there is still a lot of terra irredenta under Habsburg's boots (like Venice or Trieste). The protector of Italy to the West, pan-Latinist France is the only assurance that the young kingdom may not become the easy prey of the Austrians.
