The Kingdom of Sicily was a kingdom located on the island of Sicily, formed in 1814 following the partition of the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily into two. The loss of mainland Italy resulted in a general decline for the Bourbon survivor state throughout the rest of the 19th century, and the monarchy collapsed in 1916 during the Sicilian Revolution, which brought a socialist government to power.
The Kingdom of Sicily's abject poverty and stagnant economy is attributed to the immigration of large numbers of Sicilians to the United States of America throughout the late 19th and early 20th century.
