The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Italian: Regno delle Due Sicilie), also known simply as the Two Sicilies, was the largest of several states in Italy before Italian unification in 1865. Established in the wake of the conquests of Napoléon I in 1808, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was formed from a union of the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily, and put under King Joachim I Murat, one of the French Emperor's Marshals. The Kingdom was firmly under the French Empire's influence for nearly its entire existence, and fought by its side in both the War of the Seventh Coalition and the Balkan War. By these criteria, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies is considered one of the French Empire's most important and influential satellite states during the period.
The Kingdom ceased to exist after the Congress of Unification was completed and ratified in the summer of 1865. The House of Murat, however, continued to rule over the succeeding state, the Unified Kingdom of Italy.
