In this alternative timeline, the interception in Super Bowl II does not occur. The Raiders' missed field goal also is made. Thanks to this, Lombardi decides to stay in Green Bay as head coach. The Packers will become a dynasty.

1967

Vince Lombardi was already known as one of the best coaches in National Football League. He had won two Super Bowls back-to-back. Now, he had an option.

Should he retire? Or should he keep coaching and possibly win many more Super Bowls? It was a hard decision.

However, after giving up 24 points to the Raiders, and beating them only 26-24 in Super Bowl II, Lombardi decided that heir-apparent Phil Bengtson was not yet ready. Lombardi decided to stick around.

1968

The Packers were unstoppable. They went 13-1. They only lost one game, to the Baltimore Colts. Bart Starr was a runner-up for MVP.

They got to the Super Bowl yet again. They faced Joe Namath and the New York Jets. Namath had guaranteed a victory. The Packers had something to say about that.

It was a hard-fought battle. The Packers were determined to win. The Jets were determined to prove the doubters wrong. Besides, they had to live up to their quarterback's bluster.

It was a valiant effort. That's about the extent of it. The Packers won, 23-20. Lombardi still was not convinced of Bengtson's readiness, so he remained head coach.

1969

The Packers were a force again. They went 12-2. The dynasty was determined.

The Vikings did well, but the Packers won the division. They also won the championship. They went to play the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs played hard. They were good. The Packers won, but only 21-18.

1970

The Packers were considered the model team. Of course, other teams were really good. But the Packers produced results.

Until 1970. For the first time in the Super Bowl era, the Packers failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Saints also did not qualify for the first time since 1966, which was before the Saints even existed.

The Packers' season started bad. Vince Lombardi died before the season began. Not only did that send all of Green Bay into mourning, but it also meant that the home team would have to rely on Phil Bengtson to win games. They went 6-8.

1971

The Saints were back! Well, for the Saints, at least. They went 8-6. Unfortunately, they still missed the playoffs.

The Cowboys destroyed teams on their way to the Super Bowl. They won it, too, 24-3, against Don Shula and the Miami Dolphins.

1972

The year of the 'Phins had arrived! They went 14-0! The 1972 Miami Dolphins were the first team to do so.

The Oakland Raiders, however, had something to say about that. They beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 7-6 defensive grind. They went on to meet the Dolphins in the AFC Championship Game.

The Raiders were a tough opponent. However, they could not pull it off. The Dolphins won, 21-19.

The Dolphins went to the Super Bowl. They faced the Washington Redskins. It was a hard-fought 14-7 victory.

1983

Bill Walsh sighed. He was being exiled. That's the only way one could describe going to be the head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

The 49ers had rejected him. After being successful in the Cincinnati Bengals as a receivers coach, he became head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. He got them to an NFC Championship Game, before losing to the Dallas Cowboys. They went 3-6 in 1982, and was subsequently fired.

Now, he was coaching the Saints. Bum Philips was a flop. Now, Walsh came in.

It was risky. The Saints had gone 4-5 in 1982, whereas the Niners went 3-6. But Walsh had gotten his team to an NFC Championship Game.

Walsh would not disappoint. He got the Saints a 13-3 record. They went to playoffs for the first time since 1969. However, they lost to the Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round.

The Redskins faced the Oakland Raiders. In the Super Bowl, the Raiders won, 38-9!

1984

Walsh could not help but smile. He was watching his old team play their preseason game. They were not doing so well with Dick Vermeil as head coach.

Granted, 1983 was his first season. And they did go 8-8, which is good for a first-timer.

In 1984, the 49ers went 11-5 for second seed. The Saints went 11-5 for sixth seed. The Los Angeles Rams got fifth seed with a 11-5 record.

The Saints beat the Rams, and then went on to beat the Redskins for their second consecutive NFC Championship Game. They faced Joe Montana, Dick Vermeil, and a vengeful Niners gang. The 49ers went to the Super Bowl, beating the Saints 22-19.

In Super Bowl XIX, the 49ers beat the Miami Dolphins 33-19. Joe Montana had a win, and Dan Marino had a loss.

1985

The 49ers began 1985 with high hopes. The Saints only went 7-9, missing the playoffs. That seemed a bright spot.

However, the 49ers went 9-7, missing the playoffs. What everyone failed to realize is that 1985 was the year of the Bears. The Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears went 15-1. They had a great defense, with Mike Ditka as head coach. They also had a good offense, with Jim McMahon as quarterback.

The Bears went to the Super Bowl. They faced the New England Patriots. It was an easy 46-10 victory.

1986

The 49ers were not doing well. They went 7-9 in 1986, missing the playoffs by a long shot. Vermeil was starting to get on the hot seat.

The Saints won the division. They went 11-5. That got them third seed.

The Vikings got fifth seed. They beat the Washington Redskins. Then, they defeated the New York Giants.

It was Saints versus Vikings in the NFC Championship Game. The Saints managed to win, 20-19.

The Saints faced the Cleveland Browns in Super Bowl XXI. For the first time, a Super Bowl went into overtime. The two teams were tied at 20. The Saints, however, had a better defense, and defense wins championships. The Saints won, 23-20, in overtime, for their history-making first Super Bowl!

1987

The 49ers had a revival. They went 10-5 in the strike-shortened 1987 season. They still lost the division, but they made the playoffs as fourth seed.

The Saints went 13-2. Both losses were overtime losses. The Saints hoped to repeat as champions.

It was not to be. The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the 49ers and the Saints. They got to the NFC Championship Game against the Redskins. The Cardinals lost, 19-11.

Super Bowl XXII was Browns versus Redskins. The Redskins, led by quarterback Doug Williams, were a mighty opponent. But Cleveland was thirsty for a second title. Cleveland was favored by 1.5. However, it was a crushing 35-10 'Skins victory.

1988

The 1988 Saints went 14-2. Walsh was planning on retiring soon. He wanted to leave with a bang.

Vermeil's last season was in 1988. The 49ers went 6-10. The Niners wanted winners. Current winners, not past winners.

The Saints faced the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII. The Bengals had the best offense in the league. The Saints, however, were favored by 7.5 points. They won, 19-14.

1989

George Seifert took over as head coach of the 49ers. He got them to a 14-2 season. It was the most successful season by a rookie coach.

Carl Smith took over as head coach of the Saints after Walsh's retirement. He got the Saints to a 11-5 season. They still, of course, lost the division to the 49ers.

What made headlines, however, was the sudden rise of the Green Bay Packers. They went 14-2, nabbing first seed on tiebreakers. The drafting of Barry Sanders made this happen. How else would the Packers get a 65-41 victory over the Rams in week 3?

The Packers went to the Super Bowl. They faced the Denver Broncos, crushing them 77-11.

1990

The Saints only went 9-7. However, the newly expanded playoffs meant that they got sixth seed.

The 49ers went 13-3. They went to the NFC Championship Game to face the New York Giants, defeating them.

The Packers were a disappointment. They only went 8-8.

The 49ers faced the storming offense of the Buffalo Bills. They were not able to cope. The Bills, after posting a 13-3 season, won Super Bowl XXV, 25-21.

1991

The Packers went 9-7. However, they, like the 10-6 49ers, had to sit at home. Sanders was not a miracle-worker anymore. Or so everyone thought.

The Detroit Lions went 12-4. They got second seed, after the 14-2 Washington Redskins.

The Lions and Redskins met in the NFC Championship Game. The Lions managed to pull off the victory, 19-18.

It was Lions versus Bills in Super Bowl XXVI. The Lions were on a run, but so were the Bills. It was agonizingly close, but the Lions' curse struck. The Bills won, 32-30.

1992

The 1992 New Orleans Saints were the force of the year. They went 15-1. That got them first seed.

The Dallas Cowboys, however, were the real storm. They went 13-3. It was a good year that got second seed.

The Houston Oilers pulled off an upset against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild-Card Round with a 38-37 victory, barely holding on against a resurgent Bills comeback. They went on to get to the Super Bowl.

The Saints were not so fortunate. They defeated the Green Bay Packers 20-12. Dallas, however, was too much in a 22-18 loss.

Dallas battled Houston in Super Bowl XXVII. It was an unequal match. Dallas won, 61-14.

1993

New Orleans was a bust again. They went 10-6. San Francisco won the division.

In the playoffs, New Orleans lost to the New York Giants 17-13. The Giants went on to lose to Dallas. Dallas won the Super Bowl, 30-13, against the Bills.

1994

The Green Bay Packers had a new star. He had been playing with them since 1992, but now he was really revitalizing the franchise. His name was Brett Favre.

Favre and Sanders got along beautifully. They made a great team. They pulled the team to Super Bowl XXIX.

There they faced the surprise of the San Diego Chargers. The Packers won, 60-25. It was the third blowout Super Bowl victory in a row.

1995-97

The Packers were a force again. They went 14-2.

The Saints went 11-5. They got the division. They also got third seed.

The Saints defeated the sixth-seeded Lions 67-33. They then were beaten by the Dallas Cowboys 27-12.

The Packers fared better. They beat the 49ers. Then they beat the Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game 40-38 in overtime.

The Packers met the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX. It was close . . . totally not. The Packers won, 35-18.

In 1996, the Packers went 13-3. They won the Super Bowl again, 43-21, against the New England Patriots. They went 15-1 in '97, defeating the Denver Broncos 41-31 in Super Bowl XXXII.

1998

The 1998 season was a season to remember. The 1998 Green Bay Packers went 12-4. They lost the division, though, to the 15-1 Minnesota Vikings.

The 1998 NFL Draft is most famous for the drafting of Peyton Manning. The Indianapolis Colts took him with the first pick. The San Diego Chargers drafted another top prospect in Ryan Leaf.

The Packers got to the NFC Championship Game. There they faced the Vikings. The Vikings won, 33-21.

The Vikings went on to Super Bowl XXXIII. They then won their first Super Bowl win, 27-25, over John Elway's Denver Broncos.

1999

1999 was a year of surprise. There were at least five surprise teams.

  1. St. Louis Rams - The Rams, under coach Dick Vermeil (!) and rookie quarterback Kurt Warner, went 13-3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV, 16-13, against Doug Flutie and the Buffalo Bills.
  2. Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons, after going 14-2 in 1998, went 5-11 in '99.
  3. The San Francisco 49ers, after going 12-4 in '98, did a turnaround and went 4-12 in '99.
  4. The Indianapolis Colts, after going 3-13 in '98, did a major turnaround (this time for good) and went 13-3.
  5. The New Orleans Saints, after going 6-10 the previous years and drafting Heisman-winning Ricky Williams in the draft (and literally giving up everything for him), went 3-13, resulting in Mike Ditka getting fired.

Another thing that came up was a new team. The Baltimore Ravens came into existence. They drafted "best QB in the nation" Tim Couch, but the Ravens only went 2-14.

2000

The Cleveland Browns went 12-4. They got to Super Bowl XXXV.

The Rams went 13-3 again for first seed. They also got to the Super Bowl. The Rams, who had not won a single Super Bowl before '99, were now looking for a repeat.

The Browns' defense was amazing, only allowing 10.3 points a game. The Rams' offense was also amazing, scoring 35.6 points a game. They also had an OK defense, allowing 23.1 points a game.

In the end, the Rams were a much better team. They won, 24-20.

2001

The Rams went on another run. They went 15-1. They had a new and improved defense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had an awesome season. They ran an offense that averaged 22 points a game, which was not particularly amazing. The defense, however, was running the show. It only allowed 13.3 points a game.

The New England Patriots were suddenly a good team. New quarterback Tom Brady led the offense to an 11-5 record. They got second seed, but lost to the Raiders in the Divisional Round, 13-10.

The Steelers met the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. The Steelers were a good team, but the Greatest Show on Turf was unstoppable. It was getting better every year. The Rams won a third Super Bowl, 34-21.

2002

The Rams were not invincible. The offense was even better than before, but the defense was poor. They went 11-5.

The Philadelphia Eagles filled their shoes. They went 12-4. It was a good season, their best yet.

The Saints went 12-4 for second seed. They lost, however, to the Rams. The Rams were on a roll.

The Oakland Raiders were good, too. They went 14-2, as well. Jon Gruden was a heroic coach.

The Rams met the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. Jon Gruden versus Mike Martz. The Rams won their another Super Bowl, 58-49!

2003

The Rams went 13-3 for first seed in the NFC. They lost to the Packers in the Divisional Round. The Packers went to the NFC Championship Game.

The Rams went 13-3 for second seed. They were defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round, 26-25. The Rams were struggling in the postseason.

The Rams went 13-3 for first seed in the NFC. They lost to the Packers, however, in the Divisional Round. The Packers went to the NFC Championship Game.

The Patriots, meanwhile, were a force to be reckoned with. Bill Belichick replaced Drew Bledsoe with Tom Brady after the Patriots went 6-10 in 2002. They went 14-2, getting to Super Bowl XXXVIII. Tom Brady was in his first Super Bowl.

The Packers beat the second-seeded Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. They then met the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVIII. The Packers won, 44-32. The Favre-Sanders combination pulled off a fifth victory, and Green Bay's tenth.

2004

The Colts were something else. They went 12-4 for third seed.

The Patriots went 14-2 for second seed. They beat the first-seeded, 15-1 Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. Ben Roethlisberger's Cinderella rookie season came to an end.

met the first-seeded Steelers in the AFC Championship Game. They pulled off a 34-27 victory. It was Pats versus Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.

The Eagles, under coach Andy Reid, were hungry for a Super Bowl win after years of losing conference championships. The Patriots were, too.

It was a close battle. The Patriots managed to pull off the victory, 24-21. Tom Brady won MVP, and the Patriots had pulled off a genius season.

2005

The Saints got a revival! They went 10-6! They missed the playoffs, however.

The Seattle Seahawks did good. They got first seed with a 12-4 record. The Chicago Bears got second seed with an 11-5 record. The Carolina Panthers got third seed with an 11-5 record.

The Colts got first seed in the AFC. They were looking for another Super Bowl win. With a 14-2 season and Peyton Manning leading the charge, it seemed likely.

The Steelers beat the Colts 21-18. They went on to face the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. The Steelers won, 21-17. Ben Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

The San Diego Chargers were a force to be reckoned with. They went 14-2, getting first seed. Philip Rivers was good, and former starter Drew Brees was sent to Oakland.

The Chargers got to the AFC Championship Game. They lost to the Colts, however, 49-43.

The Colts, with Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy, met the the Dallas Cowboys, with Tony Romo and Bill Parcells. The Cowboys were the better team, point-for-point. However, that does not matter in a game. The Colts, favored by 10, won 40-17.

2007

Tom Brady led the Pats to an undefeated season in '07. He won MVP, and the Patriots were in the playoffs!

The NFC was not so obvious. Dallas got first seed from a 13-3 season with new head coach Sean Payton. Green Bay got second seed, also with a 13-3 season. Tampa got third seed with a 9-7 season, and Seattle got fourth seed with a 9-7 record.

Rivers got the Chargers a 9-7 fourth seed. They beat the fifth-seeded Titans, then beat the 14-2 Colts. The Chargers went on to the AFC Championship Game.

There, they met the undefeated Patriots. San Diego did not stand a chance. The Pats won, 21-12.

In the NFC, the Cowboys met the Packers in the NFC Championship Game. The Cowboys defeated the Packers 24-19.

It was Cowboys versus Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots won, 13-12. Brady had a second Super Bowl ring, and the Patriots had pulled off a miracle season.

2008

The Patriots attempted to repeat. However, they would struggle. They only went 11-5, and had to sit home.

Guess who won the division? Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets! They went 12-4, winning the division.

The Packers struggled. Favre put up good numbers, but could only play a 6-10 season.

The Saints went 8-8. Aaron Brooks, however, said that the Saints were about to have a breakthrough. A third Super Bowl win was in the making, he claimed.

The Colts were good. They went 12-4. The Oilers, however, won the division with a 13-3 record. They also got first seed.

The playoffs featured Rodgers versus Flacco in the Wild Card Round. It was the two new kids on the block. However, despite the Jets being really good, the Ravens pulled off a 25-12 victory.

The Chargers fared better. They upset the Colts, then faced the Pittsburgh Steelers. Roethlisberger was on a roll, though, and the Chargers lost 35-24.

The Steelers went on to the Super Bowl. There they faced the surprise of the Arizona Cardinals. They had Matt Leinart at quarterback.

It was a close battle. The Steelers came out on top with a 27-23 victory. Pittsburgh got its sixth Lombardi, and Roethlisberger got his second.

2009

Brooks was right. It was the year of the Saints! They went 14-2 and seized first seed!

The Dallas Cowboys went 13-3 for second seed. The Minnesota Vikings went 12-4 for third seed. They met the Saints in the NFC Championship Game. The Saints won, 31-28, in overtime.

It was Saints versus Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. The Colts were favored by 4.5. In fact, they were predicted to win 31-26 on the over/under.

It was entirely different. The Saints won, 25-21! The Saints won their third Super Bowl! Aaron Brooks and Jim Haslett were the heroes of the hour!

2010

2010 was the year that Aaron Rodgers finally proved his worth. The Packers started off at 3-3, but went on to get a 10-6 season. And believe me, it was not that bad.

The Saints went 10-6 for sixth seed. The Packers got fifth seed. The Cowboys went 11-5 for third seed.

In the playoffs, the Steelers beat the Jets 14-9. They went on to beat the 13-3 Pats 29-16. They went to the AFC Championship Game.

The Seahawks crushed the Colts, 29-8. Peyton Manning was practically humiliated. Russell Wilson got Seattle her first ever Super Bowl win!

2014

The Cowboys made a name for themselves. Sean Payton worked his magic, and America's Team went 13-3 for first seed.

The Saints went 12-4, earning third seed. A 12-4 Seahawks got first seed. The Packers, with an identical record, got fourth seed.

The Colts got first seed with a 14-2 season. The Patriots got second seed with a 12-4 record (which seemed very popular that year). The Bengals went 10-5-1 for third seed.

The Steelers, however, were the underdogs that really should have struck the league with fear. They crushed everybody, including the Colts in the AFC Championship Game.

It was Saints versus Steelers in Super Bowl XLIX. It was a hyped event. The Saints won their fifth Super Bowl, 32-22!

2015

The Saints struck again. They went 13-3. That got them first seed.

The Carolina Panthers made a huge story. They went 13-3 as well. However, the Saints swept them, which lost the division for Carolina.

The Cowboys also made headlines. After going 13-3 in 2014, earning first seed and a trip to the NFC Championship Game, they went 7-9 in 2015. Injuries plagued the team.

The Broncos, after 10-6 the year before, went 4-12 in 2015. Tim Tebow was on the hot seat. He retired in the offseason.

Peyton Manning also retired after a disastrous season. The Colts went 4-12. Manning had the worst season of his career, with a 45.9 passer rating. He was plagued with a poor, or should I say terrible, receiving corps.

The Saints went on to Super Bowl 50. They faced Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The Patriots had gone 13-3 for first seed in the AFC. Brooks versus Brady seemed a perfect match.

The Saints worked their magic. It was close, as many experts had predicted. The Saints won, 27-22.

The Saints went 11-5. They got to the NFC Championship Game. There they faced the Philadelphia Eagles. They had gone 13-3 for first seed.

The Eagles were a force to be reckoned with that no one thought much of. Many predicted a Saints victory.

Not this time. The Saints were mowed down. They lost, 42-10.

The Eagles met the Steelers. Roethlisberger was looking for a third ring, and Pittsburgh was looking for its seventh. Philly was looking for its second.

The Steelers were good. So were the Eagles. The Eagles won, 46-27.

2018

Once again, the Saints and the Colts found themselves on the front seat of the league. The Colts went 15-1. The Saints went 14-2.

The Colts had a really good season. Skipping out on drafting Carson Wentz, they had traded for Andrew Luck instead. It proved to be a really good idea. Did anyone really doubt Bill Belichick?

The Saints, however, were a something to fear. They scored 678 points that year, an all-time NFL record! Their defense was not a pushover, either. They only allowed 336 points.

There were other really good teams that year. The Steelers went 11-4-1 for third seed. The Chiefs went 12-4 for second seed, with a new guy named Patrick Mahomes. Watch out, Brady.

Speaking of Brady, the Patriots went 10-6 and only got fourth seed. The Chargers got fifth seed with a 12-4 record. They beat the Pats in the Wild Card Round.

The Saints went on to the Super Bowl. They beat the 12-4 Bears in the Divisional Round and 13-3 Rams 31-19 in the NFC Championship Game. They faced the Colts in Super Bowl LIII.

It was a good game. Brooks really played hard. But so did Luck. In the end, the Saints won, 31-27. They had 7 Super Bowl wins, four under Brooks.

2019

2019 was a season of surprise. The San Francisco 49ers came out of nowhere to go 11-5. They won a wild-card spot and nearly won the division. Guess who did win the division?

The St. Louis Rams! They went 12-4 for third seed. They scored a league-high 581 points.
