Liechtenstein, officially the Principality of Liechtenstein (German: Fürstentum Liechtenstein), is a very small, landlocked, German-speaking country in central Europe, located between Switzerland and Danubia. The principality is a semi-constitutional monarchy headed by the Prince of Liechtenstein, whose extensive powers are equivalent to those of a President in a semi-presidential system. Divided into 11 municipalities, its capital is Vaduz, and its largest municipality is Schaan. It is also the smallest country to border two countries.
With a surface area of only 160 square kilometers and a population of 38,896 inhabitants, Liechtenstein is Europe's third-smallest and third-least populous country. Globally, it is the fifth-smallest and fourth-least populous country in the world.
Liechtenstein is a member of the Germanic League and the League of Nations.
In 1867, settlers from Liechtenstein founded the insular North American nation of Johannia.
