Early life & education[]
The second child of first-grade teacher Liza Womack and Harvard history professor Karl Johan hr, Gustav Elijah Åhr was born on November 1, 1996, in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Her maternal grandpa is economist and historian of Latin American liberation movements John Womack. Before turning five, he relocated from Long Island to Long Beach, New York. Karl "Oskar" Åhr, his only sibling, was born. His parents both graduated from Harvard. His father is Swedish, while his mother's family is from Oklahoma. According to Swedish law, everybody with at least one Swedish parent is automatically awarded Swedish citizenship at birth, therefore Åhr received his citizenship through his father. His parents split up when he was 15 years old, in 2012. His mother claims that he started having anxiety at the age of 16 and used marijuana and Xanax as self-medication. At the age of 14, Lil Peep, who had a strong relationship with his mother, got his first tattoo—her initials and birthday—on his arm. After his parents separated, he moved to Long Beach, New York, with his mother and older brother. There, he eventually made recordings for "Lil Peep; Part One", "Feelz," "Vertigo," most of "California Girls," "Garden," "In the Bedroom I Confess," "Mall Music," "Romeo's Regrets," and a number of singles, including "Star Shopping." He went to Lindell Elementary School, which was just next door to his mother's Long Beach residence. The September 11 attacks happened just a few days into Åhr's kindergarten year, with smoke plumes being easily visible from Åhr's kindergarten classroom. He was enrolled in the gifted and talented program at Long Beach in the third grade. Later, he was put in accelerated classes for middle school. From an early age, he showed interest in music and fashion and played the trombone and tuba. When Hurricane Sandy hit Lido Beach, New York, in 2012, she was a student at Long Beach High School, which had to close for a few weeks. The next year, as a senior, he went back to school, but there was a new administration in place that didn't know the students or the school's culture. Despite being ready to quit school due to exhaustion, Maria Hartmann, a teacher, helped hir to complete. Åhr completed his final two required classes, English and Social Studies, with the assistance of two additional professors he knew and trusted. In January 2014, he earned his degree six months early. Later in January, Roh received an acceptance letter from SUNY Old Westbury on Long Island; however, he decided not to go and instead registered at Glendale Community College in Pasadena, California, as an out-of-state student. He was able to enroll there with a friend from middle school who ultimately dropped out of the class. His first semester at Glendale Community College was complete when he made the decision to leave and transfer to Nassau Community College on Long Island. By the autumn of 2015, HR was enrolled in four online courses, including two business courses, one criminal justice course, and one art history course. He received three As and one B in these courses. He made the dean's list in his sole semester of full-time study at Nassau Community College. But instead of continuing with a second term, he made the decision to leave and start playing with Schemaposse. He had already finished a sizable body of work in his bedroom by the end of 2015 while going to school full-time. As a vow to eschewing a straight life, he got his first facial tattoo at the age of 18, a shattered heart beneath his left eye. He would subsequently remark that having a tattoo on your face would prevent you from getting many jobs. In February 2016, using under the stage name Lil Peep, he moved back to Los Angeles to pursue a musical career.
Career as a rapper[]
Lil Peep identifies himself as a loner who makes the majority of his pals online when he was a teenager. Peep created music while living on Long Island under the alias "Trap Goose" and shared a short-term residence with his childhood buddy Brennan Savage before deciding to go to Los Angeles. Peep was influenced by underground artists like Seshollowaterboyz and iLoveMakonnen. Lil Peep first resided in Skid Row in Los Angeles and experienced intermittent homelessness while residing at Savage's flat as Savage earned a degree. The two soon parted ways, and Peep met rappers and producers JGRXXN from Atlanta, Ghostemane from Florida, and Craig Xen from Houston. Peep lived with them while starting the group Schemaposse. When JGRXXN need a singer, he was connected to Craig Xen, whom he had met online. Lil Peep spent his first year in Los Angeles studying at Glendale Community College. Feelz, Peep's debut extended play, was released in 2015. His first mixtape Lil Peep; Part One, which had 4,000 listens in its first week, came after that. He soon followed up with the release of Live Forever, his second mixtape. The success of tracks like "Star Shopping" (later released as a single posthumously), which made ripples in underground hip-hop scenes, helped Lil Peep start to gain ground in the fall of 2015. After the release of the song "Beamer Boy," Lil Peep's reputation grew even more, and in February 2016 in Tucson, Arizona, he joined the rest of Schemaposse to play live for the first time. Although they remained friendly, Schemaposse disbanded in April, and Lil Peep was no longer affiliated with a collective. Peep started working with the Los Angeles-based rap group GothBoiClique soon after Schemaposse split up, featuring members of the crew on his full-length album Crybaby. Peep and the gang lived together in a squat in Skid Row and frequently shared beds. Crybaby was created over the course of a month, and it was finished just hours before its June 2016 SoundCloud debut. The majority of the mixing and mastering was done by Peep. In order to support and mentor Lil Peep's career, First Access Entertainment (FAE) and Lil Peep formed a joint venture in August. Hellboy, Lil Peep's fourth and last solo mixtape, was released in September 2016. Millions of people viewed and listened to Hellboy songs like "Girls" and "OMFG" on SoundCloud and YouTube. Due to the popularity of Hellboy, Peep embarked on his first solo tour of the United States and Europe in the spring of 2017, which featured his first-ever concerts in Russia and the United Kingdom. Peep was accused of copyright infringement by the band Mineral in May 2017 for using an unauthorized and uncredited sample of their song "LoveLetterTypewriter" on his tune "Hollywood Dreaming." Peep claimed that his intention in using the sample was just to "offer some love." Peep moved to London, England shortly after the tour ended because of a dispute with Gothboiclique. There, he started to associate with people like Bexey, an old buddy, and rapper iLoveMakonnen from Atlanta. He also recorded the songs Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, the EP Goth Angel Sinner, and an unpublished joint project with iLoveMakonnen. On August 15, 2017, Peep released his first studio album, Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1. He started his second global tour shortly after, starting in the UK in September, traveling to Germany, and concluding in the US in November.
