After Assyria was defeated by Babylon, a local dynasty emerged in the region of Ashur. This lordship eventually evolved into a proper kingdom that became vassal to the Parthians and later the Sassanids. During the collapse of the Sassanid Empire, the kingdom managed to gain independence, but to survive, it entered a coalition of near eastern Christian nations which included Syria, Babylon, Rome, Lebanon, Georgia, Armenia, and the non-Christian Kingdom of Egypt.
Despite many challenges, the coalition persisted though Assyria and Babylon, but Phoenicia and Syria became vassal states of the Ottoman Empire from 1516 to 1807, Assyria and Babylon were absorbed into the Muslim Kingdom of Iraq, the two would remain under Iraqi domination until 1981 when the two kings entered into alliance with the christian king of Syria and the Pharaoh to overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime, the war took 6 years and after the war Iraq was divided between the Assyrian and Babylonian Governments.
List of Rulers of Assyria[]
All modern dynasties are in some way connected; the Ashurreshishid Dynasty descends from king Ashurnasirpal IX of the Ashurnasirpallid Dynasty.
Despite Christianity being adopted in 322 Assyrian monarchs kept using the old pagan royal names just like Babylon, despite this every Assyrian king uses Elijah as their birth name and as a main name they use before becoming king. It has since evolved from just a simple name to almost becoming a title as it is used in the royal titulary as the Christian name of the ruler. The present monarch is the 80th Elijah.
