The Kingdom of Kongo is a unitary state with a few elements of federalism incorporated into the constitution. The kingdom is divided into twelve provinces, one special district, the Royal District, and two territories. The territory of Kongo is limited by Gabon to the northwest, Zaire to the northeast, Zambezia to the east, Angola to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
