Currently, Brazil has 16 national-level political parties registered in the TSE. Every party has an electoral number to facilitate the illiterate voters. The major parties are the Republican Party, the Progressive League, the Conservative Party, the Socialist Party, and more recently, the CANSEI party.
There are two types of political parties, the national-level parties, which are eligible on every jurisdiction, and state-level parties, which are only restricted to one or a few determined states, and are not eligible to federal-level offices (such as the General Assembly, the Consulate, and the Presidency). Two of the largest state-level parties are the Mato Grosso Party ("Partido de Mato Grosso"), which are eligible in Araguaia, Corumbá, Cuiabá, Guaporé, and Juruena (former territories of the former state of Mato Grosso), and the Black Front of Palmares ("Frente Negra de Palmares").
