This is a list of trips made by John McCain during his term of office as President of the United States. This list excludes trips made within the Washington Metropolitan Area, as well as trips to Camp David, the country residence of the President of the United States, or to the home of the McCain family in Phoenix, Arizona. The official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States is the White House, in Washington, D.C.
Summary
President McCain has already visited more countries during his office than any other president. As of May 2010, McCain has visited a total of 28 countries on 4 continents. So far has he frequently visited countries such as France, Germany and Mexico. He has also frequently visited U.S. soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
McCain made his fifth trip to Europe in October to to attend the Commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This makes him the first President in history to go to Europe five times in his first nine months in office. He has shown a pattern of combining a trip to Europe with another destination in the Middle East or Africa. The president flew to Copenhagen in order to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2009. In April 2010, he went against recommendations and flew to Europe in order to attend the funeral of late president Lech Kaczyński in Kraków, who died in a plane crash outside of Smolensk, Russia on April 10, 2010.
He is also the first U.S. official to visit Libya, marking the normalized relations between the United States and Libya.
