List of states and territories of Cygnia (Joan of What?)

The United Cygnian States is a federation consisting of 22 States, a Federal Territory (Swan, which comprises the federal capital, Perth), and five External Territories. The 10 contiguous states and Swanstone are in the western two thirds of Australasia, lying to the west of Australie. The states of West Java, Central Java, East Java, Jayakarta, Solonia and Yogyakarta are on the island of Java, and the state of Samudra occupies its own island lying to Java's northwest. Singapore is in turn to the northeast of Samudra. The remaining states are largely concentrated in an archipelago to the east of Java; the External Territories lie to the northwest of contiguous Cygnia.

All the States are partially self-governing, and are represented in the Imperial Congress; the External Territories, on the other hand, are administered exclusively by the federal government. Two of the external territories are inhabited; the others are uninhabited, apart from non-permanent scientists.

West Java is the most populous state, with 55,434,087 residents (as of the 2010 Census); Solonia is the least populous, with an estimated 499,377 residents. The Imperial City of Swanstone, with an estimated 27.6 million residents as of 2016, has a higher population than many of the states, surpassed only by West Java, Samudra, East Java and Central Java. The largest state by area is Campbell, encompassing 1,043,514 square kilometres (402,903 square miles), while the smallest is Singapore, encompassing 719 square kilometres (278 square miles). The first state to federate was Peel, which it did at 7:00am on 1 January 1784, while the newest state is Sumbawa, which was admitted into the Federation on 5 September 2017.

The most recent entity to come under the sovereignty of Cygnia in its current form is Christmas Island, which formally became an External Territory on 1 July 1992.

States

The table below lists the 22 states, with their current capital, largest city, the date they ratified the Imperial Constitution or were admitted to the Federation, population and area data, and number of representatives in the Cygnian House of Representatives (Each state is entitled to at least one Representative. Current law limits the number of representatives to 480, which are then apportioned among states every ten years according to their relative population. Each state is also entitled to four Senators.)
