Alternative History

The City of Little Falls is the 2nd biggest city in the state of Minnesota. It is Located on the Mississippi River, North of the Twin Cities. It wasn't as affected by the radiation compared to the rest of the northern area of MN, but was mostly abandoned after Doomsday as it wasn't supplied as well as most of the north in the beginning of Doomsday. As time progressed, the rest of the north ran out of food and clean water except for the towns on rivers as the fallout flew downstream. Food was still a problem but people began moving to Little Falls seeking sanctuary from the famine and suffering of the north. In this wave of refugees, Student Micheal Roman and his friends, who had been at the University of St. Cloud on doomsday, started tinkering with a river barge to see if they could sail down the river to the Caribbean or a stable area in the Americas. Meanwhile, a team of 3M and St Cloud Hydro Electric Plant were fixing up the Little Falls Hydroelectric plant in hopes of bringing power and warmth in the cold harsh Minnesotan winter. By 1991, the power problem was fixed as an expedition by Roman's Barge recovered the Undamaged replacement parts from the Excel Energy wear-house in St Cloud. The Power allowed the greenhouses in the City to produce more food. Before many in other northern cities thought Little Falls was another starving hell hole Until Power came back. Massive waves of migrants came to the city which was at a point where it could only sustain its population. This caused a problem as they had no plan on how to deal with this amount of population, so a few residence toke it into there own hands. 1,403 refugees died at the hand of the citizens of Little Falls, they set up a barricade on Highway 27 near Pine Creek equipped with semi-automatic weapons, given to them by national guard defectors from Camp Ripley, they asked refugee groups to turn around and if they didn't they opened fire and throw homemade bombs at the groups of refugees. By the time the reminder of the troops at Camp Ripley heard it was too late, the national guard put down the people guarding the barricade and the rest were charged with crimes against humanity and were put in prison for life in 1992. When Trade was fully opened up, The oligarchy took over beginning to abuse the people of the iron range becoming a council of rich dictators. They joined the UMC in 2003 to take advantage of more and more communities. after industrializing and producing purifiers and smelting iron, they finally had a monopoly on the economy of the Mississippi forming the Free Trade Federation to combine economies with other towns that were doing well in 2013. in late 2019, a worker's revolt removed the oligarchs for good and finally put a proper democracy and proper workers' rights in place. In 2023, The government put out a vote on Little Falls involvement in the Treaty of Fargo, It is looking like the city is going to join the USA in recent polls.

They have a monopoly on the northern communities using them for cheap trade and labor and not helping there economy. This is most recognizable in Grand Rapids as they use the Iron there and pay the people little to mine it and sell it to countries with no Iron. Their biggest export are water purifiers as all countries on the Mississippi below the Twin Cities water is contaminated.
