Louis I (Czech: Ludvík I.; 1 July 1506 - 6 February 1559) was King of Bohemia from 13 March 1516 until his death in 1559.
Louis was born on 1 July 1506 in Prague as the only son of Vladislaus II and his third wife Anne of Foix-Candale. Before Louis became king, his father took steps to ensure his succession by arranging for him to be crowned earlier, thus the coronation of Louis as King of Bohemia took place on 4 June 1508 in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. Louis ruled until his death in 1559.
Marriage and issue[]
In 1515, on the basis of the Congress of Vienna, marriages were agreed between Louis of Bohemia and Mary of Austria, daughter of Philip of Castile. Louis married Maria on 13 January 1522 in Prague and they had three children:
- Vladislaus III (13 February 1530 - 6 October 1583)
- John II of Poland and Lithuania (7 May 1533 - 23 February 1602)
- Maria of Bohemia (5 April 1535 - 7 July 1584)
