The territory of today's Lusatia was inhabited by humans from approximately 12,000 - 8,000 BC. The territory was later inhabited by Celts, Germans and, from the 6th or 7th century, Slavs. The territory of Lusatia came into conflict with several states until 1378, when, after the death of the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles, the present-day Duchy of Lusatia was founded.

History[]

Early years (1378-1412)[]

William I, Duke of Lusatia

William, first Duke of Lusatia.

Prior to 1378, the territory of today's Lusatia belonged to several states. The last state that received still non-independent Lusatia was the Kingdom of Bohemia after the purchase of the territory that became official in 1373, making Upper and Lower Lusatia the so-called subsidiary lands of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. Even before his death, the King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles decided that after his death an independent Lusatia would be established and ruled by his illegitimate son William.

Charles died on 29 November 1378, creating the Duchy of Lusatia. With the creation of the Duchy of Lusatia, the royal family of Lusatia was also created. (WIP)
