Mali, officially the Republic of Mali (French: République du Mali), is a nation located in Western/Saharan Africa that was formed from much of the former colony of French West Africa upon independence in September 1960.
Mali shares borders with Mauritania and Algeria to the north; Niger to the east; Coastal Africa and the Sudanese Republic to the south; and Senegambia to the west.
