Manchuria, officially the State of Manchuria (Manchu: ᠮᠠᠨᠵᡠ ᡤᡠᡵᡠᠨ; Chinese: 滿洲國) is a sovereign country in East Asia. It is bordered by China, Mongolia, Korea, and Russia. Its surface area of 791,826 square kilometers makes it the 11th-largest country in Asia and the 37th-largest in the world, while its 98.5 million inhabitants make it the eighth-most populous country in Asia and the 16th-most populous in the world.
The area of modern-Manchuria was the homeland of the Manchus, including the emperors of the Qing dynasty. In 1912, the Qing would be overthrown by Yuan Shikai, thus beginning the Xian Dynasty. After a failed attempt in 1917 to restore the Qing, Manchuria would remain under Chinese control. Following the death of Hongxian, a group of Qing loyalists and Manchu nationalists, under the banner of the Manchu Party, would establish a government in Mukden. The new government in Mukden installed the Qing Aisin Gioro clan as their monarchs and would clash with the Chinese government for a few years before they recognised their independence in 1950 following the end of the communist insurrection by Mao Zedong.

The country was referred to as Northern Qing (Běi Qīng, 北清) in the 1930s and as Manchukuo in the 1940s.
