Manhattan, officially the United Provinces of Manhattan, is a country located in north-earstern parts of north Colombia. It is a highly developed nation, with the 6th largest GDP in the world and the 4th highest GDP per capita, that has great influence in world politics, global economics and international culture. It is widely regarded as the a strong power with worldwide diplomatic, political, economic and military influence. Manhattan has a large tech sector and many hi-tech innovations have their origins in the country. It is also a millitary superpower, with the Manhattann Armed Forces (Mnahattans: Manhattan Strÿdkraten) being one of the strongest millitaries of the modern era, uncontested even by larger countries (especially since the collapse of the Frankish State and end of the Cold War), largely due to it's high military spending and high tech weaponry.
Manhattan is a Federal State that is divided into many provinces, that each maintains an autonomus government. The federal government is headed by the Stadtholder (Manhattans and Dutch: Stadhouder) that is, uniquely for a parliamentary country, both the Head of State and Head of Government. The capital of Manhattan, New Amsterdam, has a population of 8.6 million residents with a metropolitan area of 23 million people, making it the 2nd largest city in the Americas as well as one of the largest in the world.
Manhattan has a unique culture and Heritage, being initially colonized by the Dutch, that would maintain and grow their colony of New Netherland, whilst the modern provinces that make up New England, Maryland and Virginia were initially colonized by England. During the 2nd Anglo-Dutch War the English lost to the Dutch the colonies of New England and Maryland, and in the aftermath of the 3rd Anglo-Dutch War not only did England permanently relinquish their claims to these colonies, they also ceded their remaining territories in North Colombia, the colony of Virginia. thus, over the years, a new Manhattan Identity was created, being a mix of Dutch, French, Native and Immigrant cultures.
From their relative autonomy granted by the Netherlands and the unique mixed Anglo-dutch culture within the colonies that would make up Manhattan would emerge a new language, Manhattans. A sister-language to Dutch, it has substantially diverged over the centuries.
The official languages of Manhattan are Manhattans, Dutch and English and all road sign, government forums and websites, laws etc. are written in both languages, this is mainly due to the largre Anglophone population in the former English provinces.
Manhattan is a member of the Belgosphere (the nations that speak Dutch), the Anglosphere, Congress of Nations (CoN), the Alliance of Democratic Nations (ADN) and the Colombian Union (CU), as well as the North Colombian Compact (NCC), and it maintains great relationships with all nations in the Colombias, as well as with many other nations worldwide.
