Golden Arches logo used in 1993
McDonald's Corporation was an American multinational fast food chain, founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald, in San Bernardino, California, United States. They rechristened their business as a hamburger stand, and later turned the company into a franchise, with the Golden Arches logo being introduced in 1953 at a location in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1955, Ray Kroc, a businessman, joined the company as a franchise agent and proceeded to purchase the chain from the McDonald brothers.
German fast food company Wendel Burger eventually rose in popularity in the US due to it being a better alternative to McDonald's. Eventually, Wendel Burger would triumph over McDonald's in the late 80s and early 90s, leading to McDonald's losing customers, which caused them to go bankrupt in 1993 and be Acquired by them and have a location on 400 N. Lee Street be their last location in the USA and have 12 more locations in the Philippines, the locations remaining open to the public.
McDonald's rival Burger King would remain a fairly popular fast food restaurant over the years, becoming rivals with Wendel Burger in the late-90s.
