After a long trek through Asia spanning two decades, Venetian explorer Marco Polo published the compiled journal of his travels in 1295. He described in great detail the Near East, with its many castles and fortresses held by many mighty empires. He entered the Gate of Iron, through which Alexander crossed into the east millennia ago. He toured the eight kingdoms of Persia and witnessed scores of miracles and wonders, many of which he dared not publish for he felt his audiences would not believe what he wrote. He described in great detail the exploits of the great Kublai Khan, the intrigue in the Emperor's court, the sprawling landscape of Yuan China, and the massive battles that took place during his stay.

Polo named his work Livre des Merveilles du Monde - Book of the Marvels of the World. In publishing these journals, he brought knowledge of the eastern world back to Europe and vice versa. Just like that, the world got a little bit smaller. The Holy Roman Empire - locked in a state of interregnum with no end in sight - became aware of the wars of Kublai Khan. The faltering Byzantine Empire and its breakaway state of Trebizond became the subject of discussion from Lisbon to Kathmandu. The wealthy Abu Bakr II of Mali would seek to follow in Polo's footsteps, paving the way for the rise of Mansa Musa. The Kamakura Shogunate of Japan defeated wave after wave of Mongol forces while, an ocean over, Mesoamerica was still reeling from the fall of the Toltec Empire.

Merveilles du Monde is a spiritual successor to the Principia Moderni franchise. It sets the clock back to the year 1295, in the Late Middle Ages - in other words, an era of great change and great suffering - an era in which nations rose and fell - an era in which power was cemented ...

The deep religious schisms in the Peloponnese are galvanized by this precipitous downfall of Romania and they seize control of the entire peninsula. Corinth is in turmoil.

Leonardo da Pistoia, a monk fleeing the chaos in the Latin Empire, arrives in Florence with the Corpus Hermeticum, a collection of 2nd century AD wisdom texts written by Hermes Trismegistus.

A famine strikes the Deccan plague in India.

  • The Iroquois Confederacy: We are joyful at the rivals death, we dance and dance. We do more baby making even though they fugly we still love them. • Kingdom of Portugal: This year sees the expedition fina and island which the Nasme Sao Tome and Principe. To that island 400 settlers are sent and officially designates it as their newest colony (permission by nate and Rex). The 15,000 army still remains at the border to prepare for an eventual attack by Arles. The new king starts learning the Portuguese language but is not allowed to visit the royal mausoleum. More ships are built and upgraded as the era for colonization truly begins now.

    • Inuits demand a peace where they can expand their hunting regions into the western coast of Greenland
  • Empire of Ethiopia: Having fought against the Turkic beylics in the Battle of Sinope, the Prince Amda Seyon moves with the Roman army to Greece, participating in the decisive victories over the crumbling Latin Empire. However the Prince, now 30 years of age and having fought in numerous battles against fellow Christians, is weary of war and yearns to return home. He thanks his uncle the Basileus John and the various friends he made in the Roman Army, inviting a number of them to return to Ethiopia with him as his guests, with his uncle’s permission of course [ROMAN EMPIRE RESPONSE]. The Prince bids Constantinople goodbye, and as his party departs the city he stares as it fades into the horizon, intending to never forget the magnificence of the great imperial center. While intending to sail home, the presence of the Venetian navy in the Aegean prevents the Prince from directly sailing to Egypt, thus he moves northwest into Italy, where he makes his way to Rome. In Rome, the Prince’s arrival is lauded by the Orthodox population and he is especially happy to meet Ethiopians again, members of the Ethiopian clergy sent to open a Church amongst the Orthodox populace and act as representatives to the Pope. After arriving in Rome the Prince also seeks out his old mentor and tutor, Adalfredo Meccia, hoping to meet with him and to get his help in obtaining a meeting with the Pope [PAPAL RESPONSE]. In Ethiopia construction of the Hall of Champions continues, as the temples on both sides of the great mall are constructed. Sculptors begin to carve large statues of past Ethiopian emperors. Urbanization continues as Ethiopian cities become cities of commerce, trade and industry, housing not just marketplaces but businesses such as coffee shops, dyeing stations, and even rudimentary tailors and clothing shops, who make custom clothing or clothing for purchase. The cities also house large textile factories, where people can work spinning cotton into textiles. Trade remains a healthy part of the Ethiopian economy, with the administrative and bureaucratic reforms of the Imperial Merchant’s Guild seeing large success in maximizing Ethiopian profits. Overland trade routes with Egypt become more prominent due to the addition of Aydhab as a friendly vassal, however naval trade, being much cheaper, remains the main method of trade. The famine in the Deccan region provides an opportunity for Ethiopian merchants, who begin trading grain obtained cheaply from Egypt and Ethiopia for valuable Indian goods such as silks, textiles, dyes, spices, perfumes, porcelain and more. With the value of grain rising due to the famine, these items are obtained for much cheaper than usual, leading to a flood of high quality Indian goods into Ethiopia. Those who normally could not obtain these items suddenly find themselves able to afford them, leading to a commercial boom in Ethiopia. From eastern India, the explorer Makda Akousa heads faqrther east, hearing of great spice kingdoms that lay in a vast chain of islands. [MOD RESPONSE ON SUCCESS].
    • Makda Akousa arrives at the city of Tavoy, discovering a spice kingdom known as Ayutthaya.
    • Papal Diplomacy: Adalfredo Meccia welcomes Prince Amda Seyon in Rome.
    • Basileus John IX disallows the departure of those important to the war effort, but allows several others to go. He also sends gifts of books and trade goods with the Prince. In particular a Roman Silk Dress for his sister Sophia and books on philosophy and knowledge from ancient Greece and Rome.
  • Mali Empire: Amir Omar Ali Shajah offiically consolidates his rule as the King of Zayiyr, as a vassal and extension of the Mali Empire. He encourages the intermarriage of his own family, and those Manding settlers and soldiers, into the local population of the Kongolese nobility. For the most part, however, the colonization of Zayiyr always remained a native-dominated state, but remained subjugated as a foreign entity of the empire. Ismail's territory at the mouth of the Kongo itself remained a separate entity at this point, which Omar was quick to negotiate as their mutual status. Furthermore, roads and education centers were also established across the kingdom, in step with the equivalent institutions that existed in the Empire. This first year also, he reconstructs the walls of Jabal Zayiyr, and dedicates their first mosque. Back in the capital of Niani, Mansa Khalil's wife had died in childbirth. Instead of taking on a new wife officially, the Mansa ordered that each woman of the city will be ceremonially married to him, and then executed the next night, in order to prevent women of the city from ever usurping his power. This caused him to be greatly feared and dreaded across the Empire of Mali, but his rule remained stable.
  • Kingdom of Arles: We accept the 3,000 Swiss Mercenaries. The forces in Pisa are recalled as the situation has died down. They are sent to Spain along with the Mercenaries. The situation at the Portugunese border is quite stable with enough food and water. The economy is boosted by trade with many countries. Lucas Sassingón finally finishes what is likely to be his last book, Christ and Catholicism. It describes what is known as Catholicism, its history and beginnings. It also has religious advice. Lucas Sassingón offers a copy to be sent to the Papal States. (PAPAL RESPONSE). He also offers it to other countries. Two more 2.0 Carrackés are built. Robert II boldly proclaims that these Carrackés are superior to any ship in the world right now, owing to their high maneuverability and firepower.
    • Papal Diplomacy: Pope Gregory XIII accepts the book that is placed in the Sistine Library.
  • Grand Duke of Lithuania: Lithuanians and Polish cities begin to develop and improve street and market towns, and some of cities as establish the high office from trades and purchasement in maximizing for Lithuania's profit. However, the development of the cathedral took a slow progress form matual's status itself and remain some emphasis to this point, they are started to establish educational centers, and dedicate the places of the cities in the trade and the textiles are now in sale and production in court facilities the cathedral has placed a rule of religion on authority and advices, for citizens the ships, are constructed and placed from their territorial and some small improvement the economy as officially to grow up to the trade's activist and reformed so far yet. Thus we also came to growing the Lithuanian navy in progress and entity' The administrator and nobles take control of the bureaucracy for organizations and improved their economics of their need' and most of ships are being boosted with money indeed sees an upward trend to export and small propre settlement of good number population and consist to work more in power's statues and mordernizing the city and have more money to finish the built and productions that takes the agriculture to advanced their work and establish minority's trade city port and takes advice and put the laws well.
  • Hanseatic League: As a new year dawns and the Baltic thaws, the non-stop trade of the Hanseatic League continues to guide German economics into a daring, new age. Every year, representatives of the Hanseatic League (Ratssendeboten) meet at an assembly in Lübeck known as the Tagfahrt. However, since the mid-14th century, the aldermen of the League have had the true say in what happens in these meetings. The League has come a long way since the days of its early inception. Civility reigned; if a consensus was threatened that may benefit the League as a whole, an alternative idea was not proposed. Something, after all, is better than nothing. Now, however, the central states of the Hanseatic League dominate trade and therefore hold significant sway over the politics of the region. The Hanseatic League recognizes four men who represent the entire central political entity and who also hold considerable sway over those who may not be governed by Hanseatic ideals. They are as follows: the Bürgermeister of Lübeck and Hamburg - Simon Burkhart, who share a mayor and who hold the final say in where shipments throughout the four regions go; Frederick II, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, who determine the prices of salt; the Prince-Admiral of Rostock, Christopher von Warnow, who holds a permanent hereditary military position; and Prince-Archbishop of Bremen, Baldwin of Venden, who holds significant sway over ecumenical politics in the Baltic. Houses Ascania and Welf have an agreement to alternate control over the Principality of Lüneburg, which has kept the peace for some time. This also prevents the region from slipping out of the hands of either house. With Pomerania-Stettin being brought ever deeper into the fold of the Hanseatic League, trade along the Baltic becomes more lucrative than ever. The Baltic Duchies also see a heavy increase in trade due to the lack of organized interference from Pomerania. However, piracy continues to affect the Baltic. Rostock and Kiel shipyards pump out bulks en masse. To protect their convoys against the pirates, the Hanseatic League employs ships known as the Orlogship. These ships have historically been equipped with crossbows and catapults. The Hakenbüchse (Arquebus) is becoming increasingly common on Hanseatic Ships. Others are being fitted with the Culverin, a small cannon that yields devastating results at close range. Nine carracks are built at Kiel with another six being built in Rostock. They join the convoys that already criss-cross the Baltic and North Sea in a seemingly unending parade. Assistance from trading partner Sweden is requested against pirate havens on Gotland. Tales of pirates and smugglers are traded throughout Hamburg and Lübeck of a more romantic nature. Though war wages in West Europe, the Hanseatic League continues to do what it does best: make money. Weapons of any nature are made en masse and sold to Scottish and Lotharingian forces, with France being purposefully excluded from such a deal. Wholesale ships and their parts are also sold to both the Hansa's war partners and her neighbors, particularly the Orebro Union and Scotland. The charters granted by Iceland are to be put to good use. As trading continues, captains of carracks and caravels are encouraged to moor near settlements in the Faroes and in Iceland to establish good relations with the locals in order to better facilitate future Hanseatic towns.
  • Roman Empire: With the Latins forced into full retreat and the Peloponnese now liberated Basileus John presses home his assault. The Siege of Thessaloniki continues with a force of 7,000 men. (Algo Please) Having taken the County of Caria the army there marches to Thessaly where they will link up with the empire’s Serbian and Albanian allies and a portion of the army at Thessaloniki for a final push on to Corinth. This army of 10,000 Roman soldiers and whatever forces the Serbians and Albanians wish to contribute marches to defeat the last standing Latin Army in the field near Larissa. (Algo Please) The economic weight of the wars, the revolts, and the Venetian presence in the Aegean drags the empire into an economic slump. The treasury runs a substantial deficit this year and will likely be totally emptied within two years if current mobilization stands. Fortunately trade can continue in the Black Sea and Danube allowing Roman merchants to sail goods as far as Vienna thanks to treaties signed with Hungary. River trade on the Bug and Dnieper allows for the sale of luxuries from Georgia and the east to flow north into Poland, Lithuania, and Russia. These trade revenues keep the empire alive and prevent dramatic economic collapse.
    • Despotates of Cappadocia and Lycaonia: The armies of Cappadocia and Lycaonia, numbering a total of 8,000 men are used to occupy the recently conquered Beyliks and secure the entirety of Asia Minor, including Caria, against revolt.
  • Kingdom of Eiru: Ignoring the random uprising in central England and subsequent invasion of Wales. In secret, Lancastrian exiles and Irish veterans of the War of the Roses plan a raid on the Isle of Wight to illustrate the Spanish occupation. 300 men in 5 ships sail from Cork south going west of the Isles of Sicily and then entering the English channel. In a night attack they land on the shores of the village of Brightstone, Isle of Wight where they then attack and torch the village before retreating to their ships and sailing back to Ireland. The men bear no insignia or standard. Since Spain withdrew there is no attack on the Isle of Wight. Expecting an invasion the fleet is concentrated at Cork and ready to interfere with the sea lanes of communications while the defences at the port are reinforced. 1,000 men are raised locally to the areas to garrison the defences of Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Derry and Coleraine. Food and supplies are stockpiled. 4,000 troops are made into an army under the King and they move to Athlone while the remaining 5,000 are left in their homes to carry out guerrilla actions in the event of an invasion.
  • Papal States: Pope Gregory XIII continues with his strong opposition to heresy, ordering the Inquisition to double their efforts in capturing and imprisoning heretics. The construction of the tower to be used for studies of astronomy continues. The tower will have 73 m and will stay near the Alexandrine Gardens. The books about astronomy and optics that arrived from Byzantium are read by scholars of Saint Augustine's University. With the help of Adalfredo Meccia, Prince Amda Seyon meets with Pope Gregory XIII. The pontiff and Roman Curia welcomes the prince warmly. During the meeting, Cardinal Francesco Della Rovere proposes a tour through Rome to Amda Seyon that accepts. In Rome, they visit Saint Augustine's University and the Prince watch a class of Natural Theology; the Basilica of Saint Peter with the tombs of the deceased popes; the Sistine Library with its books that range from theology to medicine; the Alexandrine Gardens with its glass houses, ponds and plants from different parts of the world; the construction of the tower of astronomy, near the Alexandrine Gardens; the recently finished Basilica of Our Lady of Victory with it shape of Latin Cross and 97 meter tall tower, build in Brabantine Gothic; the Anastasian Academy, where Amda Seyon meets Marco Bronzino and sees Bronzino's sculpture of Our Lady of Hope that he plans to present to the pope next year. During these visits Cardinal Francesco Della Rovere presents his nephew Giuliano Della Rovere to the Prince and the two become friends after Amda tells Giuliano about his war experiences. After the tour, Prince Amda Seyon visits the Coptic community living in the March of Ancona and meets with the Coptic Bishop Kosma. With the Bishop, the Prince visits the construction of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope in Migliarelli, this Marian apparition also became popular in the Coptic community of the Papal States. While in Migliarelli, Prince Seyon receive from the Mercedine nuns a bottle of water of the spring that appeared where the Virgin Mary appeared, is said that the water have healing properties. While returning to Rome, the Prince find a woman that was fleeing from a group of men. After rescuing her, she presents herself as Beatriu de Borgia and says that is fleeing from her forced marriage, arranged by her brother Rodrigo de Borgia. The Prince is captivated by her beauty and pities her, he takes Beatriu back to Rome and says that she is now under his protection. The Prince is also outraged by this Rodrigo de Borgia, his friend Giuliano Della Rovere told him about Rodrigo's degenerate life and now can see how this man treats his own sister. "Giuliano is right, this man is a monster" Think the Prince while he and Beatriu return to Rome. The production of weapons in the Papal Arsenal of Orvieto continues. Meanwhile, Captain General Domenico Malatesta continues training troops for the Papal Army. The Arsenals/shipyards of Ostia and Civitavecchia continues to produce ships and weapons. Adalfredo Meccia, now professor of Natural Theology at Saint Augustine's University, make travels with his students across the Papal States and visits to the Alexandrine Gardens to observe the creatures. The Della Rovere and Borgia families continue to expand influence and their respective lands continue to prosper. Cardinal Francesco Della Rovere convince his brother Raffaello Della Rovere to writes to Francesco I Sforza, Duke of Modena, asking the hand of Sforza's daughter Ippolita Maria in marriage to Raffaello's son Leonardo. Relation with foreign african kingdoms such as Jabal Asada where the population of Hoekbaai after almost a century of setlers reaches a population over 700 while the newly acquired Yele Island has KWAC Merchants visit the island. Meanwhile, in Congo, the Lotharingian merchants request a visit with Mai Omar Shajah king of Congo, as Lotharingian merchants want continuinity in trade and prosperity. (Congo Response). Meanwhile, in Spain, the group of Lotharingian diplomats offer to bring Lotharingian Press makers and technology to spain in return for the hiring of 5,000 Spanish mercenaries (Spanish response). With thousands of pirates across dozens of ships, Sultan Rahman invades Latin Aegea, raiding and scorching many islands across the sea. Operating quickly, they are successful in siezing the islands of Mikonos, Paros, Naxos, and Santorini, becoming territories of the pirate kingdomv within days to weeks. • Swiss Confederacy: 3,000 Swiss mercenaries travel to the Kingdom of Arles to aid King Robert II against Portugal if it becomes necessary, though the diplomatic situation between Arles and Portugal seems to have become calmer in the past year. The Central Council pays close attention to the new tensions that have arisen in the British Isles, but as outright conflict seems not to have broken out yet Eberhard, Count of Lenzburg, decides to keep the Swiss Confederacy neutral for now so as to keep the Lancastrians and Yorkists within Switzerland at peace. The Central Council also continues to pay attention to the Franco-Lotharingian conflict but currently views the Arles-Portugal and British situations as more important, so while a number of members of the Central Council favour aiding Lotharingia no mercenaries are currently sent out to that conflict. The Central Council is also alarmed by the defeats suffered by the Latin Empire, but they view this as a conflict too distant for them to intervene in unless Pope Gregory XIII wer to call a Crusade. With Pope Gregory XIII having provided papal dispensation, Count Eberhard again writes to King Richard II of England to propose a marriage between his son Henry of York (b. 1432) and Eberhard's sister Constance von Lenzburg (b. 1428). Peter IV, Count of Savoy and Anaïs of Anjou-Lenzburg have their second child, a son named Amadeus VIII (b. 1460). Later in the year, Hermann III, Landgrave of Hesse and Sophia, Countess of Upper Mark have their third child, a son named Frederick (b. 1460). Meanwhile,Adalfredo Meccia, now professor of Natural Theology at Saint Augustine's University, make travels with his students across the Papal States and visits to the Alexandrine Gardens to observe the creatures. During these travels they suggest which changes God gave to help the creatures survive. The Della Rovere and Borgia families continue to expand influence and their respective lands continue to prosper. Cardinal Francesco Della Rovere celebrates the marriage of his nephew Leonardo Della Rovere with Ippolita Maria Sforza. Giuliano Della Rovere continue his studies of theology at Saint Augustine's University and he continues to hate Rodrigo de Borgia. Francesco Todeschini-Piccolomini, now a member of the Order of Divine Mercy, participate in the works of charity of his order. The reforms started by the deceased Cardinal Alfons de Borja in the Church of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli continues under Rodrigo de Borgia. Rodrigo de Borgia is enraged due to the disappearance of Beatriu. This situation deprived him from an alliance with the Sforza family. Rodrigo's sister, Joana, suffers in her marriage with Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, who prefers to stay with his mistress, Isotta degli Atti. Isotta and Padolfo already have children, while Joana had none. Prince Ársæll Esturlungio continues with the reforms of the Rocca Abbaziale. The pope also says that the Archbishop of Athens will not meddle in the Orthodox hierarchy, under penance of excommunication and imprisonment. However, he asks the Emperor to forbid the Patriarch of Constantinople of meddling in affairs of the Catholic faith, giving punishments to those that broke this agreement [Byzantium response needed, please]. The Holy Father creates as cardinals Antonio Fatati (Republic of Ancona), John III Peckenschlager (Salzburg), Johann von Eych (Bavaria) and Angelo Capranica (Papal States).

  • Mali Empire: Omar, the King of Zayiyr continues to consolidate power around the capital city of Jabal-Zayiyr, while also expanding his rule to other parts of the kingdom just south of the Kongo River. At this point, his entire military was dedicated to the suppression of local Kongolese, who already proved resistant against the gradual Islamization of the Kongo's culture. He became entirely dependent not only to the native nobles that had switched loyalties to his side, but also the Imperial military of Abu Ismail who still managed the Manding settlements in the north. He officially permitted Ismail full access of the nation, but had little choice in this matter anyway. In the same way, Omar had no choice in the acknowledgement of the Franconian trading companies, who likewise were permitted access and an audience to his court. Omar further expanded the road system and education centers of Kongo, hoping to bring the native people up to the standards that Mali enjoys. He slowly began to rebuild the native Kongolese military, but dismissed them after five months out of fear of an uprising. Back in the capital city of Niani, Mansa Khalil once again consecrated his marriage to another woman of the city, named Moomtaz Zuhur. This woman was famed to be the most beautiful woman in all of Africa, and her charm was known to be as powerful as her wit. She was married to the Mansa Khalil, but instead of sleeping with him right away, she instead spent the night telling him a story. The next day, Khalil could not bring himself to have the woman executed, without hearing the end of her story first, so he relentd and allowed her to live.
  • Hafsid Caliphate: With the Tlemcen Sultan Abu Abbas Ahmad I dying this year and having confirmed Caliph Muhammad IV as his heir, the territory of Tlemcen is annexed. The mostly prosperous status of the Caliphate has allowed for infrastructure to expand and urbanize, mostly influenced by Greco-Roman designs in companionship with Umayyad influence. New military tactics are written as the encirclement strategy developed by now-deceased General Malik Al-Najm during the Libyan Jihad is perfected while other methods are looked into. Like his fatherm Caliph Muhammad IV wishes to depose the Abbasids in Egypt, hoping that his grandson-in-law, the Hafsid-Muslimid Amir Abu Yahya Zakariya, could somehow obtain the position of Sultan of Egypt. During a visit of Amir Abu Yahya Zakariya from Cairo, he speaks with Caliph Muhammad IV, who relays the message of having the Amir poison the Prince of Egypt, the Amir Abdullah II. The Amir does so, poisoning the Prince in hopes of killing him and succeeding to the position of heir upon the death of the elderly Muslimid Sultan, Abdullah ibn Muslim. [Mod Response Needed].
    • Mod Response: Amir Abdullah II immediately feels unwell and is escorted back to his palace after an hour of vomiting. He is incapacitated for some time and expected to die, but recovers later in the year. When he wakes up, he initially believes Abu Yahya Zakirya had simply served him spoiled food and was very annoyed. However, he fixates on it and begins to grow a little suspicious of his step-brother, if not very resentful.
    • Sultanate of Barbaria: Sultan Rahman, after having solidified alliances with the Nile Pirates and the Tlemcen Pirates, founding a pirate authority unmatched for the next three decades. With nearly 120 ships and an army of 10,000 at their disposal, they prepare for expansion in Europe. With rumors circulating of the Latins at war with the Greeks, Sultan Rahman sees this is a gift from Allah. With thousands of pirates across dozens of ships, Sultan Rahman invades Latin Aegea, raiding and occupying many islands across the sea. This year, he sends 3,000 men by sea to siege Athens, in an effort to expand across the sea by overthrowing the disorganized and weakened Latin state. Elsewhere, groups of 1,000 siege Smyrna while 1,500 besiege the island of Karpathos, home of the Order of Bari, although upon arrival at Karpathos, they discover the islands to be empty, likely retreating to Sicily. The island is fortified with 200 pirates while the remaining 1,300 begin raid campaigns along the coastline of Archea. Smaller groups of 500 raid Andravida and Thessalonica, with dozens of ships raiding along trade lines in the region. [Algos/Mod Response Needed]. In the mainland, Sultan Rahman expands in influence in Ifriqiya, with a number of his advisors blackmailing nobility or simply paying them off for their support under the nose of the Caliph. This allows him to expand his sphere of influence without initiating a war with the Caliphate.
  • Empire of Ethiopia: After spending two years as a guest of the Pope in Rome, Amda Seyon departs from Rome to Egypt, dodging pirate ships from the new berber pirate fleets. From Egypt the Prince catches an Ethiopian ship back to Beri, returning to Ethiopia after nearly 17 years away. The Prince brings with him his Italian wife Beatriu de Borgia, along with several Roman and Byzantine scholars, artists and craftsmen, seeking lives of wealthy elites in Ethiopia as the Prince’s guests. The Prince’s arrival back to the Empire is met with jubilance, as thousands line the road to witness the return of the Prince. The Emperor Tewodros, Empress Sofia, Princess Nyala and the Crown Prince Tewodros II meet with Amda Seyon on the steps of the Imperial palace in a touching family reunion. Trouble stirs however after Amda Seyon introduces his wife, the Lady Beatriu de Borgia, whom the Empress Sofia recognizes as a member of the infamous Borgia family from Rome. While the Empress is glad to see her son return, she is cold to his new Catholic wife, instructing her handmaidens to ignore her requests. Nonetheless, the Princess Borgia’s beauty captivates many in attendance, and she charms the Emperor with her grace and demeanor. He quickly warms to her, calling her “daughter”, much to the Empress’s chagrin. The Prince’s return is declared a day of celebration, and the government sets up stands giving out free bread, khat and wine for the celebration. The Prince also presents numerous gifts from various European rulers to the Emperor, including a luxury silk dress given by the Basileus John to his sister the Empress Sofia. The Emperor himself hosts a large feast in the Imperial Palace, where Amda Seyon regales the crowd of nobles and bureaucrats with stories about his travels in Europe, from his education in Constantinople to fighting the Lotharingians in Western France. The Emperor and Crown Prince are fascinated by Amda Seyon’s war stories, especially of the brutal sieges he encountered against European castles. Ethiopia, with its natural fortifications never built castles, and the stories of these massive stone fortresses being blown apart by gunpowder cannons captures the imaginations of the dinner guests. The Emperor is shocked to hear Europe is still a place full of warfare, as the Ethiopian mission to Europe nearly half a century ago also reported a massive European war in Western Europe, perhaps the very same one. The Ethiopian impression of Western Europe as a land full of feuding and warring Christians is reinforced by this news.
  • Roman Empire: Basileus John, now an old man, comes down with fever in camp near Thessaloniki. He sends for his son Gregorios, who arrives shortly before his father’s passing. He is crowned in Thessaloniki at Hagios Demetrios as Basileus of Rome, Emperor of the Greeks and Romans. The Latins discredited and their emperor absent the Roman Armies at Thessaloniki and Larissa convene and march South to Thessaly. The joint army, numbering 13,000 men, will secure Thessaly for the empire, laying siege to its capital Larissa with siege guns. (Algo Please) With the establishment of two Orthodox States in Greece, the Despotates of Epirus and Achea, Basileus Gregorios hopes to restore the empire. He sends envoys to Epirus to seek their vassalage. He also sends Thomas Zachariah envoys to negotiate his vassalage. Both rulers are offered internal autonomy and protection in exchange for 5% of their revenue. (Mod Responses Please) A military man, Basileus Gregorios promises his soldiers lands and property beyond their current wealth, and spreads heavily on the war. The treasury continues to drain, now at an accelerating rate. He sends the mercenaries hired to fight in Asia Minor home, paying them well.
    • Despotates of Cappadocia and Lycaonia: With Asia Minor stabilizing after several years of relatively peaceful occupation the Armies of Cappadocia and Lycaonia are able to refocus on stabilizing Caria and the Beyliks, economic prosperity, and returning to their farms.
  • Chimu: "Years have passed since the start of the new Civil war. The conflict has escalated severely and several villages were destroyed. The pakatmayo went in hiding for a few years, to bid their time for another strike. An failed assasination attempt was made against Viracocha, were the agent that was going to execute him was discovered before the start of the Ritual. Child sacrifices were made in order to get the Sun god to give the chimunese people power to fight against this new threat. Skirmishs and battles were made over the course of the years. The Chimunese civilization is still on peace, but the war that was apparently over, is not over yet. Economy is repaired in a 40%, and most merchants are escorted by the military. Viracocha has now a royal guard to protect him from any assasination attempt. Religious affairs are stable, but they caused another smaller conflict between organizations. These conflicts are being controlled by the military of both nations. Meanwhile, The Pakatmayo are bidding their time to attempt war on Viracocha again.."
  • Swiss Confederacy: Eberhard, Count of Lenzburg again writes to King Richard II of England to propose to arrange a marriage between Richard II's son Henry of York (b. 1432) and Eberhard's sister Constance von Lenzburg (b. 1428). (Mod response) 3,000 Swiss mercenaries remain with King Robert II of Arles to protect them against Portugal as tensions between those two nations continue. Though, as the situation is currently not an outright military conflict, the Central Council considers withdrawing the mercenaries if it appears they are not needed within a few years. The Central Council is pleased the dispute over the Isle of Wight appears to have been resolved, though they pay close attention to the new tensions that have arisen in Wales. Eberhard, Count of Lenzburg considers sending mercenaries to support King Richard II of England in this situation, but decides to keep the Swiss Confederacy neutral for now to avoid upsetting anti-French anti-Yorkist nobles within Switzerland. Count Eberhard and the Central Council write to Pope Gregory XIII to offer to accept refugees from the Latin Empire if there is an excess of them in Rome. (Papal response) The Central Council continue to pay attention to the conflict between Lotharingia and France, though they have become slightly confused as to what exactly its status is. Domestically, the government prepares to potentially accept refugees from the Latin Empire and funds the expansion and improvement of the University of Basel. The joint military of the Swiss Confederacy works on improving the city walls and other fortifications of the major western cities of Basel, Bern and Geneva. Bishop of Lausanne Georges of Saluces dies and is succeeded as Bishop by Guillaume de Varax, previously Bishop of Belley in France. Later in the year, Patriarch of the Western Church Fernando Estigarribia (1389-1461) dies. He is succeeded as Western Patriarch by Eneko Etcheverry (b. 1405), a Basque priest from Iruñea/Pamplona. The Central Council writes to Pope Gregory XIII, proposing that Etcheverry be created cardinal to replace the previous Western Patriarch. (Papal response) Hearing that King Robert II of Arles is seeking a marriage for his son Lucas (b. 1432), Count Eberhard proposes Sophia of Gorizia (b. 1437), sister of Henry VII, Count of Gorizia and Eberhard's second cousin, as a potential bride. (Arles response) (Mod response of Gorizia) Marie of Anjou-Lenzburg (1390-1461), widow of King William of France and aunt of King Robert II of Arles, dies of natural causes. Thomas Courtenay, 14th Earl of Devon and husband of Anna of Hesse, is injured after falling off a horse but survives.
    • Papal Diplomacy: Pope Gregory XIII thanks Count Eberhard and the Central Council for their offer and will allow some refugees to go to the Swiss Confederacy. The pontiff also creates Patriarch Eneko Etcheverry as cardinal.
    • Gorizia is OK with this.
    • Arles accept.
  • Kingdom of Scotland: As we are preparing to leave Wales with our troops, King Edward is horrified by the announcement of King Richard that he is once more pushing his candidacy for the rulership of Wales, and his attempts to convince the Welsh nobles to support him. We remind him pointedly of the previous attempt he made, were we were forced to directly fight him in battle, and of the fierce resistance the Welsh people showed to being under an English ruler again. In the name of our mutual friendship and long alliance, Edward begs King Richard to drop his candidacy, stating that, although it pains him immensely and he would absolutely hate to do so, that Richard persisting in attempting to claim the throne will force us to end our alliance with him, despite our bonds of friendship and marrige, and to abandon him to face the remaining Lancaster forces in Ireland and in the many parts of England that still resent his rule on his own. Although we make it absolutely clear this is a worst case scenario and not at all the one we want, we also make it clear that we are 100% serious in this, and that Scotland can’t accept a re-unification of Wales and England under any circumstances, regardless of our alliance. However, we do state our willingness to find a compromise candidate, and that we are fine with an English candidate being Prince of Wales, we just state that we cannot support the king of England or someone close to inheriting England being Prince of Wales unless that candidate gives up their claims to the English throne, which he cannot do for obvious reasons. We also point out that this will seriously disrupt our plans for an invasion of Ireland to root out the last remaining Lancaster supporters, and that if he gets bogged down fighting a rebellion in Wales that he will be left vulnerable to Lancaster plots. (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED FOR ALL OF THIS FOR HOW RICHARD RESPONDS). We also continue to spread propaganda of the Bruce claim on Ireland, based on the Bruce invasion of Ireland and brief claiming of high kingship during the first failed Scottish war of independence, and the Bruce’s descent from numerous Irish relatives that were heavily related to the kingship.
    • Richard considers that Scotland should have no reason to intervene in the situation like this, as their continued support, long-standing alliance, and marriage ties have completer solidfied Scotland's support for the Yorkists as being far more important than whatever loose ties they have with Wales. With the civil unrest in Wales that have resulted in two revolts recently, the stability of the nation is untenable without direct outside support, and Richard already has both local military backing and legal precedent to be that candidate. This would have nothing to do with Welsh's newly-created independence as it is still its own nation, with its own recently-formed parliament, but would exist as a personal union only so far as to retain Yorkist support to keep Wales stable. But if Scotland continues to push their threats at the expense of integrity of their alliance, he will reconsider his decision.
  • Kingdom of Lotharingia: "Were Di": The merchants of the "Koninglyke West Afrikaansche Compagnie" in Congo, hearing of the Gradual islamitisation of Congo state an official protest. The Merchants seeing the actions of the king as destabilising to the region of Congo, but due to need for trade this action does not go farther then that. This issue is given to aid the most disadvantaged people in Iberia that had been heavily impacted during the Spanish Civil War and are still recovering. Seeing the beauty of The Spanish Armada with her father while meeting Don Danielo de Orango, it has become her dream to emphasise what she regards as La Conquista Nueva, A New Conquest but over the waves. Diego Suarez and Carlos de Palma are made governors of these locations. Meanwhile, the deal with a friendly Lotharingia is accepted in order to operate our very own presses.
  • Duchy of Saxony: The Duke‘s great-nephew Sigismund of Brandenburg-Bohemia (b. 1444) and his great-niece Maria of Brandenburg-Bohemia (b. 1445) are still unmarried. Any marriage offers for them are welcome. The Duke loses his left foot this year after getting stuck in a marsh for a week resulting in an infection growing up his leg. The foot is replaced by a flat wooden slate, which becomes a popular substitute for feet amongst the populace. In attempts to imitate their beloved Duke, people began cutting off their own feet and replacing them with wooden slates. Fortunately, the Duke soon puts a stop to this. He begins to pass more of his duties to his oldest son Wenceslaus. His son August (b. 1445) has an illegitimate son named Ernest, who is adopted by his cousin the Count of Wasaborg and given the name Ernest of Wasaborg.

The remaining Catholic states left in Greece suffer greatly from the ongoing chaos. Thessaly immediately submits to be a vassal of Byzantium after the siege of Larissa. Athens manages to fend off the Moorish invasion after suffering tremendous damage to their ports and cities. The Order of Bari is overwhelmed by Barbary raids, but miracuoluosly the Knights of Saint John in Smyrna defeated the Saracens. Emperor John pleads with the Italic league and his kinsmen in Spain to help restore his throne and fight the Byzantines.

After years of occupying and annexing part of Ligny, King Henry II of France leads the army of 15,000 troops to strike against the Franconian position in Mouvaux, asking Burgundy for assistance. One local legend mentions that a "Maid of Mouvaux" was left homeless when her house was destroyed by the fighting, and so was permitted to immigrate to Lotharingia.

Rchard II of England approves of the marriage offered by the House of Lenzburg to his son Henry. However, two months later Henry requests that he should decline this political marriage, as he had already vowed before God that he was going to marry his mistriss Eleanor Talbott, a minor English noblewoman. This outrages his father Ricahard, and some rumors circulate on the continent that Prince Henry was tricked into this contract by Eleanor's schemes.

Seeing the current threats from his supposed ally Scotland, Richard pauses on his attempts to claim the Welsh throne, and even withdraws his troops from the city of Cardiff back to the March lands. • The emperor agrees to lead the inquision in Livonia.
    • The artists accept.
    • Odoric of Modena visits Rome briefly to explain his visions telling people to wash their hands and practice social distancing. He couldn't stay long, as he wants to return to preaching to the common people of Italy.
  • Duchy of Burgundy: Duchess Anne of Burgundy dispatches 8,000 men under the command of Count Charles I of Nevers as second in command to assist King Henry II of France against Lotharingia in Mouvaux as requested by the French King. An additional 8,000 men under the command of her father, Phillip III the Good serve to assist King Edward Bruce of Scotland's forces in their intervention in Wales in support of Duke Alisdair Bruce of Gwynedd against Owen Tudor. The Burgundian School of music, this form of polyphonic music that has became an inseparable part in the lives of the members of the Burgundian Court in Dijon, as such groundbreaking music compositions was reveled by her predecessors, her father and her grandfather back when it was initially introduced, now continues to develop and envolve into a new form of unparalleled compositions. The works of musicians and composers to the likes of Guillaume Dufay, Gilles Binchois, Antoine Busnois and (as an influence), the English composer John Dunstaple certainly do not pass unnoticed, on the contrary they continue to enrich the beutifull heritage of this region. Duchess Anne of Burgundy-Valois has embraced this fascinating genre, not only because she takes pride that her Duchy's achievements, but also because the melodical nature of these compositions is unparalleled. She also sponsors the musicians and composers of the Burgundian school, proving to be a great patronage of the arts, with much of the lower nobility now embracing this genre into their everyday lives.
  • Kingdom of Lotharingia: "Were Di" With the taking of Mouvaux and the majority of the French forces in Ypres leaving to prepare a counterattack on the 12,000 Hanse-Lotharingian soldier. This leaves 6,000 French forces left on the walls of Ypres, this force being smaller then the Lotharingians on otherside of the front line. This force of 12,000 Lotharingia with pikemen and Punaisiers togheter with come cannoneer groops the cannoneers trying to turn the ground behind the French enemy to mud as to prevent the French from being able to retreat effectively. As the Lotharingian army will still holds parts of Ypres which the French were unable to take in the first battle of Ypres, the lotharingians using mostly infantry tactics in the muddy grounds of Ypres against the French cavalry. While in Mouvaux 5,000 Spanish mercanaries arive to aid the defence togheter with another 5,000 From Valencijn, Dulle griet even being moved from Nanzig to Mouvaux using the Rhine and later on the Schelde. This is done as the cannon is needed more in Mouvaux as her defences are quite light compared that of Nanzig, as Mouvaux isn't walled like Nanzig is. Thus 5,000 soldiers from the victorious second batte of Ypres are send (Forgot to mention them before as I misread old turn), while at the same time 12,000 soldiers are send from Valencijn. The Army in Ypres numbering 14,000 and the army of Valencijn 3,000, thus the total of Soldiers in Mouvaux is 29,000 soldiers with a third of that number in the town itself to replace. The numbers of the Lotharingian soldiers being so high as godfried Regnier and Aldermen von Hanze are in dire need of a victory as the costs and morale are weighing heavy on the population. After 20 days of fighting in Mouvaux the combined Hanse-Lotharignian army defeats the French army taking heavy casualties but scoring a victory. Lotharingia is thus not at danger anymore from any French invasaion as all of her troops have fled or been captured, with this King godfried Regnier now offering a truce with the French king. (Mod Response). As Godfried believes peace should be established once more western europe, as the Franco-Lotharingian war has cost alot of lives without any significant move in front line. While the  "Koninglyke West Afrikaansche Compagnie" offer the Kingdom of portugal to split the island of Etulá as a compremise to solve the Portuguese Lotharingian tensions (Portugal response).
  • Kingdom of Scotland: Although we are very angered by Richard's obvious lack of care for what we actully said, and his attempt to claim the throne AFTER PREVIOUSLY RENOUNCING HIS CLAIM TO IT, we don’t wish to compromise the alliance since he has withdrawn from Wales. Instead we directly intervene with our 6,000 Scottish and 8,000 Burgundian troops (14,000 total) in the area to crush the Tudors. (Algo Request) We do our best to clear up the minsudnerstanding with Richard, however, stating that we were not intending to threaten him, but to state we couldn’t continue the alliance IF A COMPROMISE COULD NOT BE REACHED, and to point out that he had previously renounced his claim to the throne of Wales. Although we state we are still very much against a personal union between Wales and England, as this would obviously result in eventual Welsh annexation by England, we are still willing to compromise, as we also do not to lose our own major influence in Wales. As a compromise, we propose Alisdair Bruce, Duke of Gwynedd, who has a much stronger connection to Wales personally as a duke and has lived there for a long time, and who has a much stronger claim to the throne as a grandson of Owain Lawgoch through his mother, take the throne and marry a member of the house of York, in order to solidify the alliance between Wales, England, and Scotland without causing Wales to lose its independence well still being heavily tied to the Yorkists and recognizing England’s influence over it. However, we state that this is merely our initial proposal, and that we are still entirely willing to come to a mutually beneficial compromise on the issue (mod response).
  • Kingdom of Eiru: After Scotland sent a non- secret communication to the King of England saying about how they plan to invade Ireland and how Scottish agents have entered the country and started spreading lies about a fictitious Bruce invasion of Ireland and fictitious claim to the High Kingship when no such events occurred. The King puts out his own message clearly, there is no nor was there ever a Scottish claim to the throne of Ireland and this is nothing more than an act of aggression. While Scotland and Ireland were on different sides of the English civil war it comes as treachery for our supposed brothers in the Celtic confederacy. Both houses of the Parliament of Ireland are called to discuss events unfolding. Anger at the Scottish treachery is widespread across the Irish parliament after many had shed blood against them in the English civil war and they have little association with Scotland. The King largely recluses himself from the conversation with Tadgh Liath Mac Carthaigh whose daughter Keelin Carthaigh is married to his heir Aodh speaking for the King. The agents of Scotland who are caught have their tongues removed with hot pincers and nailed to their foreheads before being sent back to Scotland with a message that the King of Scotland is a liar and brigand. Parliament agree to a statement declaring the King of Scotland to be a liar and a brigand and to renew work on defences including fortifications, the navy and feudal lords should keep their armies ready. A tax on land is agreed almost unanimously to be raised by Parliament to pay for this. Soldiers continue to be stationed at the major ports in castles which are updated with new funds while the force at Athlone is available and ready but in the event of a war has no intention of fighting a direct battle. Other forces remain at home ready to defend their own homes.
  • Swiss Confederacy: Hearing about Henry of York and the supposed marriage precontract, Eberhard, Count of Lenzburg writes to King Richard II of England again, suggesting Henry may have been tricked into the precontract by machinations of Eleanor's father, John Talbot the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, and he encourages Richard to investigate this and try to change his son's mind. If Henry of York continues to insist upon the precontract and it cannot be annulled, Eberhard proposes to instead have his sister Constance von Lenzburg (b. 1428) marry Henry's brother Edmund of York. (Mod response) As the dispute between Arles and Portugal appears to have subsided, the 3,000 Swiss mercenaries in Arles are recalled back to the Swiss Confederacy. Instead, at the urging of nobles who are upset with the Edict of Reims in France, Eberhard offers the King of Lotharingia the use of 3,000 Swiss mercenaries to defend his territory. (Lotharingia response) The Central Council continues to pay attention to the dispute in Wales, though they currently think military conflict is unlikely to occur and thus remain officially neutral for now. Count Eberhard hears King Domnhall III of Iceland is looking for marriages for his sisters, and thus writes to him with two proposed marriages: he proposes to arrange a marriage between Ísabella Sturlungur (b. 1435) and Eberhard's second cousin Henry VII, Count of Gorizia (b. 1436), and also proposes to arrange a marriage between Seselia Sturlungur (b. 1438) and the Lenzburg-related Swiss noble William IV, Count of Geneva (b. 1438). (Iceland response) (Mod response for Gorizia) The Swiss bishops study the preachings of Odoric of Modena, though they cannot come to a conclusion yet as to whether they are significant or not. Domestically, the government works on improving roads in the northeastern Cantons of Augsburg, Kempten, Montfort, Salem and Constance to increase trade and generally improve the economy in this region. Refugees from the Latin Empire sent to the Swiss Confederacy by Rome are settled in the major cities of Zürich, Basel and Constance, with some of those less educated or more agriculturally skilled brought to the rural parts of the large Cantons of Bern and Chur. The joint military of the Confederacy focuses on fortifying mountain passes and other border crossings on the southern border of the nation in the Cantons of Sion, Uri, Disentis and Chur. Cardinal-Bishop of Constance Heinrich von Hewen dies and is succeeded as Bishop by Burkhard von Randegg. Count Eberhard writes to Pope Gregory XIII to propose that Bishop of Basel Johann V von Venningen be created cardinal to replace von Hewen. (Papal response) Maria of Gorizia (1404-1462), the second wife of Engelbert I & IV of Saxony and Mark (1376-1446), dies of a disease. Peter IV, Count of Savoy and Anaïs of Anjou-Lenzburg have their third child, a son named Aymon (b. 1462).
    • Papal diplomacy: Pope Gregory XIII creates Bishop Johann V von Venningen as cardinal.
    • Iceland: The marriage is gladly accepted.
  • The Spanish Empire: As further exploration continues along the African Coast, Spanish Explorer Enrique Castillo reaches the mouth of the River Congo. Meanwhile on the Island of Gloria (Bioko), the construction of a wooden fort around the settlement is completed and a small expedition force is sent out to reach out to any potential natives of the island. Gloria (Bioko) sees quite the activity as a minor post trading with the locals for goods and slaves. These slaves are brought to the Port of Conakry where if they choose to not embrace Hispanic Culture and Catholicism, their servitude to their employers will not end. Nonetheless, they have decent living conditions in the working and moving of goods. The growing Mulatto Population ends up overseeing some dockyards and a variety of merchant groups as a result rise up in the port under the Spanish West African Company Don Danielo de Orango dies and is succeeded by his son José de Orango. Rio Campo sees an uptick of Sevillan merchants looking to settle in the increasingly profitable African Trade Region and as a result, the Rio Campo dockyard is rushed to completion and several properties are constructed with the colony being mapped out for development of further housing, increased development of the fort, as well as the West African Company base of operations all to be completed in the coming years. With most slaves converting to Catholicism and accepting the Hispanic Culture, in places like Conakry, they begin to find themselves working as Housed Workers. They are employed by the West African Company and reside on their property receiving food, housing, and a monthly income. Within Europe, Katherine finds herself visiting her cousins in the Papal States within the Habsburg Family. Patrols along the Barbary Coast on anti-pirating missions increase to secure and protect Western Mediteranean Assets. As the Hispanic Renaissance continues, many artists are commissioned from the Academy of the Arts in the Olive Garden district of Napoli to create paintings for the upper classes as they create art galleries of their own while many pieces are sold or donated to various academies and scholarly institutions from across the empire and Italy.
  • Roman Empire: Having subdued Thessaly, Gregorios wishes to continue. However, it becomes increasingly clear that sustaining such wide-spread military efforts is draining imperial wealth and power in an unprecedented way. The Themes are dismissed, the Tagmata reformed to its determined size, and other troops sent home. Faced with total bankruptcy, even the economically inept Gregorios is forced to attempt reform. He places his trust in several leading members of the Syndikáto Empóron to help stop the bleeding. This trust proves to be manipulated as they convince the Basileus to increase taxes on foreign merchants dramatically. This harms revenue for the government, but does make the merchants happy. The Imperial Administration, now tasked with ruling Caria and Lower Macedonia, is forced to reform significantly in the face of budget cuts and greater demands. Gregorios, though not a proficient economist, is a fantastic organizer. He personally leads the reforms, cutting the fat out of the Imperial Bureaucracy and establishing a more militaristic chain of command. This structure proves effective, if overbearing in some instances. These administrative reforms bring back some of the empire’s stability in the newly conquered regions. Land grants to soldiers in Caria,Lycaonia, and Cappadocia further ensure the Empire’s grip on Asia Minor and Greek dominance over the Turks. Work does resume on the Great Library of Constantinople, the project is expected to be completed in 1470.
    • Despotates of Cappadocia and Lycaonia: Lycaonia adopts reforms similar to those implemented by the empire. The Despotate has been increasingly integrated over the last decade, in part due to the wars and in part due to imperial policy. Integration of the Despotate as a Theme is set to be formally recognized in 1466. Cappadocia executes military reforms, disbanding any Turkish forces. Fortifications are constructed around the Caesarea to ensure the safety of the government .

1463

After Thessaly fell to the Byzantines, Epirus and Achaea both agree on being tributaries with Emperor John at this time, but declines from being a vassal. This makes Duke Julio Alfonso of Athens as the last remaining remnant of the Latin Empire, which also has taken control over the city of Corinth. He begins printing money and making petitions to the Pope that he should be recognized as the rightful Latin Emperor, restoring the Superano dynasty, as Juan de Barcelona has failed to secure the saftey of the Latins.

King Richard II of England accepts making a compromise with the Kingdom of Scotland, offering his second son Edmund should be made Prince of Wales instead, and renounce his own titles in England. He considers this move to be more important than risking the loss of his Celtic alliances. The Tudors fled from Wales before Scotland could attack.

  • Duchy of Saxony: An eventful year occurs in the Duchy of Saxony. Andres Heinrich Engelbert de la Marck, Count of Lower Mark and his wife Anna have their first child, a son, Henry (b. 1463). However, Andres Heinrich Engelbert, after a vigorous swim in the lake, keels over and is found dead several hours later by his manservant, Erris. Erris’s sister is suspected to be the mistress of the Duke of Saxe-Wittenberg, Henry, and this arouses suspicion. However, almost immediately after Andres Heinrich Engelbert’s death, the Duke and Elector Henry seizes the County of Lower Mark, declaring the infant child Henry de la Marck (b. 1463) is illegitimate, because Andres Heinrich Engelbert and his wife were first cousins, and therefore should’ve married only with papal consent, which they did not even bother asking for (he neglects to mention that he was the one who arranged the marriage). The Duke (Henry) gives the title Count of Lower Mark to his son Otto (b. 1434). The infant Henry is looked after by his grandmother Bonne (b. 1399), while his teenage mother also goes to stay there with Bonne, who is deprived of her power over Mark as well.

  • Hafsid Caliphate: Caliph Muhammad IV dies this year, succumbing to the plague while quarantined in his palace. He is succeeded by his son, Ahmad III. Although having grown up in Tunis and being the first Caliph to have been born following the defeat of the crusaders in Libya, Caliph Ahmad III's early years were turbulent at best. The Amir of Tlemcen, Abu Abdallah III, declares that the Hafsid Caliphate is illegitimate, establishing a separatist kingdom in the city, with most of his forces being made up of bedoins under elite mercenaries, each with their motivations in establishing individual spheres of influence. Having no choice but to promtply declare war back at his uncle, Caliph Ahmad III establishes a council of reknowned and high-ranking generals and warriors known as the 'Aman Council, that operate as peacekeepers of the Caliphate. The council members lead their own armies of soldiers into battle, most of which are professional-class troops. Members of the 'Aman Council meet a young warrior in Tataouine known as Abu Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Janann, or simply al-Janann. Seeing his warrior ability and strategical knowledge as beneficial, the Council recruits him as Regent of Commander Abdullah 'Amr 'Uthman. Although it would be assumed that the Zayyanid dynasty would fail to gain supremacy in this conflict due to their status, Amir Abu Abdallah III appoints the savage and cruel Captain Ubayda Al-Hasan as their leader, a pirate warlord of the Tlemcen Pirates and a brilliant military strategist. Due to the Tlemcen Pirates being allied with the Sultanate of Barbaria, Sultan Rahman siezes the opportunity to undermine the Caliph's rule by laying siege to the city of Zarzis, declaring independence in the process. (SPANISH RESPONSE NEEDED).
  • Empire of Ethiopia: The tradition of the new Ethiopian Emperor invading a foreign nation compels Tewodros to begin the first Ethiopian outward war in nearly 60 years. Tewodros, much more a scholar than a warrior, appoints his brother, the Prince Amda Seyon as his military commander. The Prince, having fought for nearly a decade in Europe as a mercenary, has the proper experience to command the armed forces. The Emperor and his brother plan a large scale raid into inland Somalia, planning to mainly capture slaves and loot local settlements in the inland Sultanate of Kelafo. The Emperor and his brother muster 10,000 Chewa warriors and strike deep into Somalia, plundering villages and capturing slaves. The expedition is successful, with the army gather a number of slaves to be sold and plunder to be distributed. However during the expedition the Prince Amda Seyon recognizes the Ethiopian army’s relative backwardness compared to the more advanced military systems in the West, namely the Empire’s lack of a standing army and its utter lack of gunpowder tech, along with a lack of standardization in arms and armor. The military’s decline in quality is largely due to the Tewodros the Great’s emphasis on internal affairs such as art, architecture and culture and his lack of care for the military as well as the Empire’s lack of military opponents in the region. The Prince asks his brother for permission to revitalize and modernize the military, arguing that the Empire must always be ready for threats and to do so would require a strong military. The Emperor agrees and names his brother Minister of Warfare, a powerful position in the mekwanint. As Minister, the Prince’s first actions is to plan the formation of a standing army. To that end, he works with the minister of finance to calculate how many men the Empire could afford to keep as the beginnings of a standing army. The Prince finds the Empire can raise 5,000 men, and as issues an Imperial Edict with the Emperor’s signature stating that any Chewa family with more than one son can contribute one son to the new standing army, who would be paid a salary in exchange for pledging 20 years of service. Only men under the age of 24 are considered eligible for this role. With the Ministry of Warfare’s bureaucrats the Prince is able to raise 5,000 men from the Chewa cities in Somalia and southern Ethiopia. These 5,000 are assembled near Barari, where the Prince begins training and drilling them extensively to instill further discipline. He also receives a letter from his friend in Italy, Giuliano Della Rovere, relayed from the Coptic priests in Rome to the trade offices in Alexandria and from there to the Empire. The letter details significant advancements in Roman architecture as well as condolences for the loss the Prince’s father. The Prince writes back a letter thanking Rovere for his kind words and for keeping him updated on the situation in Italy. He also asks if Della Rovere would have any connections he could use to secure a large arms shipment for the Prince, namely 1,000 arquebuses. He also writes that he will most likely be purchasing more weapons and so will be a good customer [PAPAL RESPONSE].
    • Papal diplomacy: Giuliano Della Rovere travels to the Republic of Ancona and gives the Prince's request to the Elders. They say that Ancona will provide any weapon that Ethiopia desires for the right sum of gold. The Republic also offers a trade agreement with Ethiopia, using the ports of Egypt.
    • Ethiopia accepts the trade agreement and assures the Anconans that they will pay the necessary price in gold
  • Kingdom of Eiru: With tensions between Ireland and Scotland continuing, King Eadbhard appoints his son and heir Aodh to the privy council in the new role of Lord Justice and has his son go to the task of locating all agents of Scotland whether spies or propagandists within the Kingdom along with arresting them, interrogating them and punishing them. Aodh sets to the task setting out bounties for information and hiring agents of his own to make enquiries with people if they have seen any suspicious behaviour. Meanwhile, Parliament and the King recognising that taxation for a potential war is not simple agree to carry out a large scale survey of all the land in Ireland breaking down the Kingdom into it's respective sub- Kingdoms and naming the owner of each of the Fief's within the respective sub- Kingdoms. Defences at the ports of Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Derry and Coleraine are kept up to date while the fleet at Cork is maintained properly. Al freemen are expected to maintain their archery skills. The Tudors are welcomed to Ireland. Aodh has a daughter Ethna this year and Orla has a son Peadar.
  • Kingdom of Ayutthaya: King Trailokanat continues to consolidate Ayutthayan control over the Malay Peninsula and central Southeast Asia. At the insistence of Dhammazedi, the construction of a grand temple is planned as a way of remembrance of his reign and to show his dedication to Buddhism. He also organizes another mission to Bodh Gaya following the advice of his religious advisor as well as a tributary mission to China. The funding of education at Buddhist temples continues in earnest as they supply candidates for the instituions for training administrators and officers for the army continue to produce more promising candidates to fill the ranks of the Orang Besar as well as to fill in positions in Ayutthaya's professional army of 8,000 men. As news of the arrival of an explorer from a land called Ethiopia reaches the ear of King Trailokanat he gives instructions for Tun Perak to send ships and explorers to reach this land. (Ethiopia Response). Toungoo continues to receive political and military support from Ayutthaya who hold suspicion and concern for the Ava Kingdom and an offer for a military alliance between the two regions is made (Mod Response, note: Asking Toungoo for alliance). King Trailokanat and his wife are blessed with a male child by the name of Borommarachathirat III. Envoys baring gifts are sent to the Kingdom of Lan Na to ensure that the alliance between the two regions remains steadfast. Hang Tuah continues to operate and work in his role as Laksamana of Ayutthaya commanding its navy. Hang Tuah has built up a reputation as emodying the values of the upper-class with allegiance and loyalty to the Rama of Ayutthaya and has also become a close confidante and friend to Rama Trailokanat. An offer of an alliance or at least friendly relations is proposed to Majapahit due to their position in the Straits of Ayutthaya (Mod Response).
  • Kingdom of Lotharingia: "Were Di": The end of active war is in place as King William of France as has accepted a truce between the kingdom of France, the Duchy of Burgundy and the Hanseatic League and the Kingdom of Lotharingia. As the war has made alot of casualties on both sides with a combined 50.000 Mortalities on both sides of the battle lines, this combined with the high concentration of soldiers causes the budgets of all involved to be in trouble. As paying widows and pensions to those wounded togheter with just paying the soldiers on the front, The government having to pay most of the national budget into paying soldiers and the logistics behind the war. Thus Prince Henri Regnier brother of King Godfried is send to Versailles to meet with King William of France, Duchess Anne of Burgundy and Simon Burkhart a Hanse economist representing Hamburg and Lübeck, as Versailles is a small town on the outskirts of Paris. The treaty being named the Treaty of Versailles after the place of Signing, the peace finaly bringing stability once more over western europe. Meanwhile, in Africa, the Koninglyke West Afrikaansche Compagnie representatives meet with representatives of the Kingdom of Portugal, as to resolve the issue of Ilha Pedro I. Eventually the treaty of Algarves, which splits the island roughly in half between Portugal and the KWAC.
(Mod response). With the approval of King Ólaf V of Iceland, Eberhard writes to his second cousin Henry VII, Count of Gorizia, proposing to arrange a marriage between Henry VII (b. 1436) and Ólaf V's aunt Ísabella Sturlungur (b. 1435). (Mod response) As France and Lotharingia appear to be in the process of making a peace agreement, the offer of Swiss mercenaries for Lotharingia is withdrawn as the Central Council thinks they would not be needed there. The Central Council continues to pay attention to the ongoing disputes in Wales, though they do not prepare any mercenaries for this conflict yet as they currently consider it unlikely that a military conflict would break out there. Some Swiss clergy are shocked when they hear news from Iceland about the situation of King Ólaf V of Iceland having three illegitimate children; seeing potential for this to become a scandal, Count Eberhard writes to Ólaf V, suggesting that perhaps he should abdicate to avoid the Icelandic royal family getting a negative reputation. (Iceland response). Eberhard also writes to Henry IV, Duke of Saxe-Wittenberg, proposing to arrange a marriage between Henry IV's son Otto de la Marck (b. 1434) and Eberhard's relative Maria of Savoy (b. 1430), the sister of Peter IV, Count of Savoy. (Saxony response) (Mod response for Savoy). The Central Council writes to Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund II, proposing that the Counties of Lenzburg and Savoy be elevated to Duchies to reflect their political and economic power within the Alpine region. (Mod response). Domestically, the government works on improving food storage in the nation's major cities to make them more resistant to famines; as part of this, salt is imported from the Swiss Confederacy's allied nations the Kingdom of Arles and the Republic of Genoa. The joint military of the Swiss Confederacy focuses on improving the fortifications of Zürich, the largest city in the nation, by improving the moats around the city walls. Alana of Bruce-Auvergne (1399-1463), widow of King Andrés Heinrich I of Iceland and great-grandmother of current King Ólaf V of Iceland, dies of natural causes. Hermann III, Landgrave of Hesse and Sophia, Countess of Upper Mark have their fourth child, a son named Ulrich (b. 1463). Later in the year, William IV, Count of Geneva and Seselia Sturlungur have their first child, a son named Amadeus VI (b. 1463).
    • Gorizia accepts the marriage.
    • Savoy is OK with the marriage.
    • Emperor Sigismund agrees to elevate Savoy to a Duchy, but needs to review Lenzburg further.
    • Edmund of York agrees to the marriage.
    • Duchy of Saxony: The Duke gratefully accepts this marriage. (He also expresses his support for the Count of Lenzburg's request to be elevated to a Duke).
  • Kingdom of Scotland: In response to the counter offer for the status of Wales proposed by Richard, we state our satisfaction with it and state our willingness to accept Edmund as the Prince of Wales under the conditions specified. However, we also mention that there is one final issue, which, although we believe it was intended to be addressed in the initial offer, was worded in such a way that it must be specified. Specifically, we state that we are satisfied with all of the conditions proposed except for him renouncing his titles in England. This is because, although this is important as a very good step in the right direction, he must renounce his and his descendants claim to the Throne of England for our conditions to have been met, as otherwise an English-ruled Wales, the very thing we are trying to avoid happening, will be likely to happen in the future if anything happens to his first son's line via the inheritance of Wales by Edmund or his descendants. However, we make it clear we are satisfied with all of the other parts of the proposal, and that once this condition in met we will recognize Edmund as Prince of Wales and support his claim. Meanwhile, in other news, we continue spreading propaganda about the Bruce claim on Ireland, despite its weakness. (SECRET) Specifically, we send many Irish born Yorkist supporters into Ireland, and have them blend into the general population well spreading this propaganda, making them harder to find due to us previously sending obvious Scottish agents, so the search for Scottish agents would focus on people like them and not inconspicuous Irish who speak Gaelic. We also use a small amount of them as agents to communicate with several Irish kings who are known to be very dissatisfied with the state of affairs of Ireland under the Úi Néill dynasty and the increasing centralization Ireland has undergone since the war of Irish independence. We offer them our military support and promise much increased autonomy, rights, and privileges compared to their current situation, where they are unable to even settle their disputes on the battlefield as is their right due to the Uí Néills English inspired centralization policies, if they rise up in support of us when the planned invasion of Ireland officially begins. We also offer them the once in a lifetime opportunity to massively expand their influence by carving up the lands of the Úi Neill within ireland itself when we win, promising to massively redistribute these lands in favor of those who support us at the expense of the Úi Néill and those who continue to support them, allowing them to take lands from their rivals and become much more powerful and autonomous then they are now if they support us. (MOD RESPONSE NEEDED) (SECRET END).

  • Empire of Japan: Emperor Ryoichi presents his son Hideyoshi who is elevated to the status of the Lord of Admirals and is put at the head of the Empires naval situation. While underexperienced, the young Hideyoshi takes to his post well taking on chief advisors, and various veteran admirals and captains to begin looking into various reforms geared towards survivability and the establishment of better supply and rations to the fleet and its sailors. The reorganization of lands within Manzhuguo continues with the two provinces having the available land to develop and settle expand by much. Nahodki and Aimoi grow further with the two cities effectively becomming two of the most densely populated regions in the Mainland provinces. The opening of settlement and the v chaos involved in redistricting and land distribution on the home islands drives thousands to the provinces. The Emperor continues to enforce his high control over the upper echelons of Japanese society. The feudal levies continue to deviate from their liege lords as instead the various collections of levies instead enlist their levy status with imperial administrators and imperial army outposts. As longstanding power of the monarchy becomes more apparent, more governing and legitimate legislation comes from the Imperial Diet which now with its designated role to help manage civil affairs and law, sees an uptick in activity. A series investment is put into the construction of a transport fleet geared towards allowing a 40,000 strong expeditionary force to be sent out and orders are made specifically to be brought into the fleet as logisitics ships with the intent to be escorted and used for a supported army landing should it come to that. Many are put to work in the extremely busy shipbuilding sector which as a result of explorations and expanding trade networks was busier than ever. Some preditions however are of yet another trade crash in the region and some of the Zaibatsu and other trade guilds make efforts to sit on funds to ride out the trade market boom. The rising of the various cities of Japan sees their chief status solidified as the civilian governments of Kyoto, Nagoya, Sendai, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Sappora manage to brute force their way onto the Councillor General and Imperial Diet. Being relatively powerless against the daring move, the Feudal lords begin mobilizing manpower to forcibly remove these upstarts and teach them a lesson. In a surprise however, the Emperor Ryoichi authorizes their allowance to remain on both branches of Diet demanding a system be made to incorporate all the small and large cities in respective areas of influence. The Chief cities being more notably important to the national economy and hence the authority of the Empire, are given favor of the imperial court in order to maintain their loyalty and hence an Imperial monopoly over what does and doesnt get passed in the Imperial Diet.
  • Roman Empire: Though financially troubled the empire stabilizes greatly this year. The reforms introduced last year are more firmly implemented and the Imperial Bureaucracy begins to embrace them more fully. Recovery from the years of fighting will take time, but for now there is an air of cautious optimism throughout the elite of the empire. With Greece largely recovered or at least nominally affiliated with the Empire as tributaries or vassals and Asia Minor firmly under Imperial control perhaps a new golden age will be found. Gregorios, ever the military man, reaches out across Europe and Asia, seeking the greatest military minds to improve the school of military theory and strategy within the Pandidakterion. He hopes to create a more formal officer corps to lead the Empire’s armies with less reliance on the aristocracy. The economy also begins to solidly recover from the cost of waging war. The advent of the seed drill throughout Western Asia Minor leads to a great productivity boom as farmers short on manpower adopted or wished to adopt the tool during the recent wars. With a return to normalcy and money once again available these farmers have been able to adopt the useful technology. Basileus Gregorios goes so far as to mandate their use in all Themes and has the Imperial Arsenal at Nicaea begin producing them for distribution to the Themes. This accelerates production dramatically as soldiers who were promised land are often given one to reduce the acreage needed for distribution by increasing output per acre. With seven years remaining on construction the Great Library of Constantinople is already a sight to behold. The hexagonal building is immense, nearly as large as Hagia Sophia herself. The complex houses thousands of texts in dozens of languages and on a myriad of subjects, ranging from philosophy and metaphysics to human anatomy and botany. Having completed the structural elements and interiors years ago all that remains is decorative and exterior work to ensure the building will last for centuries to come.
    • Despotates of Cappadocia and Lycaonia: Lycaonia continues its integration towards the capital, descending as an asteroid caught in a gravity well. The spread of seed drills occurs here as well with their introduction by resettled troops. The flat open land of central Lycaonia is well suited to these drills which allow for much larger areas to be planted rapidly and with less work. In Cappadocia the Tagaris Dynasty continues to crack down on the Muslim lower nobility, seizing remote holdouts when possible and distributing land to Christian families to enpower their supporters. Construction of fortifications around Caesarea continues.
  • The Spanish Empire: Starting at the new year, Governor Alejandro de Cadiz renamed Rió Campo to Nueva Zamora. With high income of the West African Company and support by the Spanish Crown pushing further development of Nueva Zamora, more merchants from across the empire arrive and settle. Brought with them are housed workers from Sardinia which begin immediate cultivation of crops to feed the growing colony. With a fort and mercenary division being brought by the West African Company to station in the colony for protective purposes, true expansion begins along and around the shoreline. Some of these Housed Workers construct and gain their own properties respectively but nonetheless, remained stuck to the monopoly that is the Spanish West African Company to conduct business. Juan de Ajeccio, a Hispanic Sardinian settler begins the cultivation of sugarcane on his new land. The efficiency of sugar cultivation in the colony makes it spread to the point of it quickly becoming an overall trend. Labourers though are needed and as a result, goods are exchanged around the Ivory and Gold Coast for slaves to be brought to the colony to speed up sugar cultivation. These slaves quickly become Housed Workers after being converted to the one true faith and begin to adapt the Hispanic Culture with their new lives in the colony. an expedition force head out to search for any natives in hopes of establishing warm ties. Back in the mainland, as profits grow, so too, does the wealth of the Empire.
  • Malacca Sultanate: Sultan Mansur Shah continues expansionist policies implemented since his ascension in 1459. Settlements are encouraged towards the regions of Senangor, Bernam, and Kampar. Bendahara Tun Perak is given greater administrative powers as the hero of the of Pahang. Steps are taken to formally vassalize the Pahang Kingdom - eight-year-old Muhammad Shah is announced as the presumptive sultan, with a coronation date of 1470, with Bendahara Tun Perak taking on administrative duties as regent.

In the Hansa, the Duke of Schleswig orders a local Friar to bring him some good omen from the monestary. The Friar replies that the Duke should not demand such prophesies from God, as not everyone deserves to have their future predetermined. The Duke demanded a second time, and so the Friar went to the monestary. When he returned, the monks had related to him from God that he doesn't get a prophesy, as it is written "you shall not test the Lord your God". The Duke demanded a third time to be given an omen, so the Friar went to the monestary yet again. This time, God said that he is not going to like it. After a fourth time, God said that the Duke will not live to see another sunrise. That very night, the Duke was murdered by his bodyguards.

Richard is still deliberating on Scotland's ultimatum.

The old Apostolic Palace is completely demolished and the stones are donated to be used to build houses for the poor. Seeking to continue the program of reduce expenses started by Pope Pius II, Gregory XIII decides that the new Apostolic Palace will also house various administrative offices of the Church, this way reducing expenses with several administrative buildings scattered across Rome. • Mod response: Most Italian states adopt inquisitions even if some lesser nobles in these states do not do anything.'  'Antonio Rossellino is happy for the papal invite to work for the pontifex maximus.
  • Mali Empire: It was at this point that Abu Ismail died, and all the territory he had settled along the Kongo River was assumed under the control of King Omar of the Kongo. The historical record is absent on the political circumstances surrounding this annexation, only briefly mentioning that Omar assumed control over the region after Ismail's death. However, the archaeological record indicates there was significant resistance from the local Kongolese tribes, and it seems that many tribes were forcefully relocated after this event. He continud to construct houses and institutions back at the capital of Jabal-Zayiyr, where his road system was completed across the whole of the kingdom. He also began to restructure and reform the Kongolese military, but this time heavily influenced and controlled by mercenary Mande offiers imported from the empire. Back in Mali, Moomtaz Zuhur successfully captured the Mansa's attention by her intricately-woven story-telling, and filled the bedchambers of Musa's Palace with fantastic stories across various distant lands. Some of her tales included the land of Borealia, a mystical country in the far west that could turn sand and rocks into gold and jewels. Some of her other stories included the ancient days of the Holy Caliphate, but a more fantastic version that stretched from Morocco all the way to the spice islands. She spoke about a group of heros with mighty powers endowed by God to battle against evil, and the days when the Pope was the prisoner of the Berbers. She also spoke of the great Kingdom of Azoz, a magical city that was lifted to heaven by God's grace, but fell back down to earth in pieces due to their own hubris. This and countless other nations and stories graced her delicate lips, but at all these Khalil scoffed as being ludicrously implausible.
  • Empire of Japan: Further developments within the Imperial Diet regarding civil administration come to a head. It becomes clear there are loopholes and discrepancies in which their power lies for helpful civil administrative matters. This prompts a request to sit down with the Emperor to discuss the extent of their rights and powers in regards to administration. While much of the meeting goes over well the main hangup comes the power of the Emperors veto over certain things. His once unmovable coalition of supporters falter as the refuse to legalize the Emperors total veto over the whole of Japan and its territories. Key members of the military, and allies in the Counsellor General and Joen of the Diet, switch sides and block this. This forces a begrudging compromise between the Emperor and the Imperial Diet which prevents a unilateral veto but also gives him ability to enact large scale national law and maintain the military budget. The first political engagement the emperor has lost removing these ideas of total absolutism under himself. While maintaining power almost as much as his restorationist forebears remains out of his reach, the Emperor does maintain a serious amount of power lying within him and his dynasty. The southern provinces of Japan having finally recovered and ceased much of their revolting finally begin to see a comeback. Population continues to grow and one of Japans Crown jewel cities lies within the southern provinces. Seeking to work within the system rather than against it, the island begins to see domestic driven redevelopment of lands devastated by the various civil conflicts which drove through the area. Ports now are as busy now as they were before the great revolts. And most importantly, a driven artisan and tradesman economy which begins to rapidly overtake their northern brethren due to increases in efficiency and an almost single minded drive of these provinces to catch up and surpass their northern brothers. The port facilities in Aimoi are expanded significantly as year over year, more japanese arrive in the city to claim empty lands in Manzhu and Amuraji. Greater integration between local manchus and the newly settled japanese see the development of the first joint towns which mix the Manchu and the Japanese and even sees some mixed couples. It is estimated in Manzhu proper, a plurality of Japanese and Manchus coexist in the area with the larger cities and towns of the Japanese starting to outpace the growth of the Manchus.

  • Malacca Sultanate: Sultan Mansur Shah, under Bendahara [vizier] Tun Perak's urging signs the Imperial Mandate, releasing tax credits to families that resettle to newly expanded territories. Laksamana [chief of navy] Hang Tuah is given sweeping new authorities and a greatly increased naval budget, earmarked towards the production of short to medium-range warships, trade ships, and transports. Settlers are given discounted prices on naval transport ships, with benefits increasing the more family members they bring. Imperial outposts are constructed throughout the peninsula, with the goal of creating a robust trade network to support and supply the sultanate's expansionist policies. Construction also begins on a trade fleet, inspired by Zheng He's voyages many decades ago. 14 ships are initially ordered to be constructed, but at Tun Perak's urging the total number is raised to 19. Construction is estimated to take three years, and permenant trade routes are hoped to be established between the Arabian peninsula/Persia and China. Internally, Temenggung Abu Bakar [chief of police] is instructed to quietly begin training of an internal secret police and external spy system. However, limited funding due to rapid expansionist policies will likely mean development of the security apparatus will be slow. Islamification becomes an official state policy, with many study centers constructed in Upeh designed to act as both religious and government propoganda outlets. Arabic is encouraged, although adaptation is slow. Malacca City's port's throughput taxes are raised, increasing revenue from Chinese, Arab, and Persian merchants that rely on the strait for safe travel. Increased revenues are spent on contructing more ships to patrol the strait and provide safe passave for merchants. The Imperial Tax Code is implemented, lowering taxes for Muslims and providing tax credits for businesses that support expansionist activity.
    • This is basically voided because the player didn't realize Malacca has been subjugated by Siam. However, I won't cross out the post because technically these actions can happen through a vassal

His brother Atticus is appointed commander-in-chief of the military, while his uncle Marcus is installed as head of internal security and revenues. The Imperial Council is eliminated and its barons dismissed. The government is purged of hundreds of former Barcelonia-aligned officials, while loyalty courts are held across the empire. The personal property and fortunes of the purged are added to the Imperial Treasury - on top of this, taxes are raised across the board to help fund the reconstruction of the country and the armed forces. The Count of Corinth is reinstated to his position in return for a significant sum of money from Iceland and two of their Byzantine exploration ships. [MOD RESPONSE: Given the fluid state of national borders and displacement caused by the civil war and purges, a census is ordered to be completed by the end of the year. On the foreign policy front, Emperor Julius reaches out to the Venetian Republic, requesting low-interest loans and assistance to help reconstruction. In return, he promises a 10-year agreement of tariff-free access to Romanian ports and a 30-year lease on the port city of Chania, subject to renewal in 1494.]
