Mexico, officially the Empire of Mexico, or the Mexican Empire (Spanish: Imperio de México, Imperio Mexicano), is a federal constitutional monarchy located in North America.

Mexico is bordered to the north by the United States, to the east-southeast by Guatemala and Belize, and to the south by the British territory of the Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. It also shares maritime borders with the US States of Baja California across the Gulf of California, and Cuba across the Corrientes Strait. A population of 83.6 million ranks Mexico as the 11th-largest nation in the world.

After gaining its independence from Spain in 1821 after a bloody, eleven—year war, Mexico entered a mildly prosperous but equally turbulent period of its' early history under the rule of Emperor Agustin I, who presided over the formative years of the Mexican state.

Mexico is organized as a federation comprising of 24 States and Mexico City, its capital and largest metropolis.
