Miloš Zeman (born 28 September 1944) is a Czechoslovak politician of Czech nationality who served as the twelfth Minister-President of Bohemia from 2009 to 2014.
Miloš Zeman was born on 28 September 1944 in Kolín, Bohemia. His father, Josef Zeman, was a postal clerk and his mother, Marie Zemanová, née Skokanová, was a teacher. In 1968 he joined the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party. In the state elections in 2009, Zeman was elected as the new minister-president of Bohemia. In the 2014 state election, he was defeated and replaced by Pavel Bělobrádek.
Early years[]
Miloš Zeman was born on 28 September 1944 in Kolín. His father, Josef Zeman, was a postal clerk and his mother, Marie Zemanová, née Skokanová, was a teacher. When Zeman was two years old, his parents divorced and Zeman lived only with his mother.
In 1963, Zeman graduated from the high school of economics in Kolín. Later in 1965, he began studying at the Prague University of Economics and Business, which he graduated in 1969.
Political career[]
In 1968, Zeman joined the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party. Zeman ran in the federal elections in 1993, 1997 and 2001 but did not win. He later ran for office in the Bohemian state elections in 2009, where he won. Zeman was not re-elected in the 2014 state election.
Zeman initially criticized the anti-government protests of 2019, saying that people were just making things up and that they were untrue, but changed his mind after Babiš said that people wanted to establish a totalitarian state. During the snap elections, he supported Jan Hamáček, a member of the Social Democratic Party.

Personal life[]
Zeman married twice. He first married Blanka Zemanová in 1971 and separated from her in 1978. In 1993 Zeman married Ivana Bednarčíková. Zeman has two children, David from his first marriage and Kateřina from his second marriage.
Zeman is known for being a smoker and a heavy drinker. Since Zeman was later diagnosed with diabetes, he had to limit his alcohol consumption. From September to November 2021, Zeman was transferred to the Central Military Hospital due to his poor condition. Zeman left the hospital on 27 November. Since then, Zeman has been in a wheelchair. On 14 March 2024, Zeman was hospitalized at Motol University Hospital due to a lack of blood in his leg caused by a blood clot, for which he underwent surgery. On 3 April, Zeman was released from the hospital.
