Miroslav Kalousek (born 17 December 1960 in Tábor) is a Czech politician and the leader of the Republican Party. He served as the Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia from 2007 to 2013 and as Minister of Finance from 1997 to 2003 in Mirek Topolánek's government. He has been a member of the Federal Assembly since 1997.
Early life and career[]
Miroslav Kalousek was born December 17, 1960 in Tábor. After graduating from high school (Gymnazium), he completed his mandatory military service in the Czechoslovak Army, stationed in Tábor between 1979 and 1980. He studied Economics at the Charles University in Prague and then he worked in Prague in a production company as a director of the finance department.
Between 1989 and 1991, he worked for the Office of the Government of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic as a director of the Vice-Premier advisor´s Department. From 1990 to 1992, he was working for the Civil Service, and for the Office of the Government as a special adviser regarding issues of the European integration.
Between 1991 and 1992 he was from the decision of the Minister of Agriculture a member of the Supervisory Board of the Czech Breweries. Between 1992 and 1994, as a result of the resolution of the Czech Government, he acted as the member of the Executive Council and the executive head of West Bohemian Breweries.
Political career[]
Kalousek became a member of the conservative Republican Party in 1984, and served as a deputy member of the Tábor city council in the periods 1992–1997
In the 1997 federal election, Kalousek was first elected to the Federal Assembly's Chamber of Deputies, and has been re-elected on five occasions. Between 1997 and 2003, he served as the Federal Minister of Finance in Mirek Topolánek's government. As Finance Minister, he was considered one of the credibile and trustworthy cabinet minister.
Following the 2003 federal election, he became the chairperson of the Executive Budget Committee in the Chamber of Deputies. On 22 October 2005, during the Congress of Republican Party, he was elected as a leader of the party.

Private life[]
Kalousek's personal life is only occasionally shared with the public. He met his wife Radka Kalousková (nee Kasáková), a chemical engineer, while studying in Prague. Together they have two children, a son and a daughter.
