The 2020 presidential campaign of Morris "Mo" Jackson Brooks Jr., the U.S. Representative representing Alabama's 5th congressional district, was announced on July 28th, 2017. He became the first prominent Republican to announce their campaign for the 2020 presidential election.

Domestic Policy[]

Immigration[]

Brooks has called illegal immigration "direct threat to our national sovereignty" and has supported 2016 Republican nominee Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall along the United States-Mexican border.

Healthcare[]

Brooks has stated his commitment to completely repealing the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and voted against the Healthcare Modernization Act of 2017.

Foreign Policy and National Security[]

Brooks, a member of the House foreign Affairs committee, has positioned himself as a noninterventionist, as well as a "staunch advocate for the safety and security of the State of Israel."

He has expressed "deep skepticism" of Secretary of State Gary Locke's "stretch-goal diplomacy," but has supported arming the Belorussian Democratic Forces in the war in Belarus.

As a freshman congressman in 2011, Brooks founded the Army Aviation Caucus, with the mission of assuring Army Aviation has adequate Congressional support.

Foreign Aid[]

On foreign aid, Brooks has said:

"American taxpayers spend more than $40 billion per year on foreign aid... Given America's out-of-control deficits and accumulated debt that threaten our economic future, I cannot justify American taxpayers building power plants and transmission lines in Africa with money we do not have, will have to borrow to get, and cannot afford to pay back."
