The Mongolian People's Republic (Mongolian: Бүгд Найрамдах Монгол Ард Улс (БНМАУ), Bügd Nairamdakh Mongol Ard Uls (BNMAU)) was a socialist state in Central Asia which existed between 1924 and 1949. It was ruled by the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party and maintained close links with the Soviet Union throughout its history. The Treaty of Tehran, signed in 1949 to end World War II, split Mongolia between the Empire of Japan and the Soviet Union.
