My Peoples is a 2005 American computer-animated comedy film made by Walt Disney Pictures. The first animated Disney canon film to be computer animated, the film follows two rival families in rural Georgia as they find their two leaders falling in love with each other. They try to get the couple to break up, but instead it creates dolls that come to life. The dolls have to prevent George and Lee from breaking up before more weird events happen.
The film was produced at Walt Disney Studios New York in Utica, New York. The film finished production in late 2004 and was released on May 27, 2005. The film had a minor controversy over its humor being deemed "not family friendly", although the film was rated G. However, the film's overwhelming positive response quickly made this out of view, with praise being directed towards the animation, writing, humor (although many critics stated that it isn't very family friendly), and messages. The film was also a huge box office success, allowing it to be in theaters as far as October 3, 2005, and prompted a new direction for The Walt Disney Company to make more films for teenagers and young adults.

Production[]
Production for My Peoples began circa 2000 and continued into November 2004. After the box office disappointment of Home on the Range, Disney was confident that the film would be a huge success.
While early drafts seemed more family-friendly, as part of an effort to make the Walt Disney Pictures brand appeal to older audiences (notably teens and young adults), the film took a more mature direction. However, the film was rated G. Although a minor backlash from some groups called for a boycott of Disney, this faded by the time the first reviews of the film came in.
Reception[]
On Rotten Tomatoes, My Peoples has a 92%, with the consensus saying; "Although it isn't very kid-friendly, My Peoples shows that the main Disney wing can make computer animated movies-and make the Walt Disney name appealing to teens and young adults."
Reviews of the film were largely positive, with many top ratings. While a few more critical reviews were published, very few were negative.
Box Office Results[]
My Peoples grossed $25.2 million in its first weekend in the United States, a record for an animated film, and box office profits continued to rise. By the time it left theaters in October 2005, it had made over 3 billion dollars in the American box office, a record high for Disney.
Video Releases[]
My Peoples was released on VHS and on a 2 disc collector's edition DVD on November 15, 2005. My Peoples is the last Disney animated canon film to be released on VHS. On March 20, 2007, My Peoples was released on Blu-Ray as one of the first Disney films to be released on the format.
