The Mysorean Civil War was a violent conflict in the Kingdom of Mysore between 1977 and 1988. The war was fought between the royalist rulers of Mysore and antiregime peasantry. A settlement in 1984 to devolve most political powers from the absolute monarchy to a bicameral legislature ended the worst of the fighting but the last rebels were not fully defeated until four years later. It is regarded as one of many nationalist and populist revolts against a French-backed Asian royal house during the last part of the 20th century, with conflicts in Southeast Asia particularly prominent.
