Nakotaland is a large republic in Northern Leifia. It has borders with Cree Republic to the North, Ojibwe to the East, Isanyathimark, The Triple Principality and Lakota Federation to the South and Apsaalookriga and Haanininland to the West.

The capital city is Wascana and the population is around 600,000.

The Head of State is President Tusweca.

The currency is the Nakota Kron (NKK) which is pegged to the Vinlandic Krona.

The Nakota were early victims of the expansion of the Aniyunwiyan Empire in the 13th Century as successive displaced peoples migrated out of the Fraeburt Votnum and settled on their traditional lands. Pushed northwards and westwards onto the plains of Northern Leifia they adopted a semi-nomadic lifestyle based around the yearly bison migration and were little interested in the agricultural innovations spread by the Vinlanders.

Surrounding groups however were growing more powerful however, and soon they were able to defend territory and 'their' bison. Over the course of the 15th century the Nakota were vassalised by the growing Lakotan Empire and banned from following the bison.

The First Vinland-Lakota war 1676-1681) curtailed the Lakota's empire and Nakotaland was given its independence. The retreating Lakota burnt almost all of the new nation's infrastructure and the people, immensely poor, relied on Vinlandic know-how to rebuild their country. By that point the traditional way of life had long since been abandoned and small isolated farms scratched out a subsistence living. However a few Vinlandic had introduced a hardy breed of wheat to the area around Indogahwinbae and by the late 1700s a huge swath of Northern Leifia was becoming more and more reliant on Nakota wheat.

During the 2nd Mexic-Leifian War Nakotaland was occupied by Mexic troops and wheat supplies were restricted. Under threat of starvation a broad coalition urgently rushed to free the wheat plains.

During the summer months and especially around harvest time the population of Nakotaland usually triples. A quite mixed and open society has resulted as foreigners often settle instead of returning to their home countries. The stretch of the Trans-Leifian railway passing through Nakotaland has been completed and ever greater amounts of wheat can now be exported. This is likely to lead to a population boom both in Nakotaland and in Eastern Leifa as a whole.

Nakotaland is a democracy with elections for president and government held every 6 years.
