Napoleon I (Napoleone di Buonaparte), 1769-1824, was Emperor of France and Catalonia in the 19th century

Early Life

He was born in Corsica to parents of noble Italian ancestry and trained as an artillery officer in mainland France. Bonaparte rose to prominence under the Kingdom of France. In 1797, he and 500 men stormed Versailles Palace, killing Louis XVI and proclaiming himself King of France. He was a key leader during the Eight Years' war, basically ruling all of Europe after the war.

Napoleon as Emperor

In 1800, after France's many victories, he is crowned Emperor of France and Catalonia. He ruled until 1824, when he was assasinated by a pro-monarchist. He is buried in Paris.
