Napoleon I (Napoleon Bonaparte; 15 August 1769 - 22 June 1829), also known as Napoleon the Great, was a military commander who became the first Emperor of France from 1804 until his death in 1829. The Bonaparte dynasty, started by Napoleon himself, controlled most of Europe during most of the 19th century.
