The Nasjonale Regjering (NR), also called the Quisling Regime or the most popular term the Quisling government, was an Axis Powers member that participated in Operation Sealion.
1940 Quisling Coup[]
The NS was the Norwegian version of the Nazi Party and it wanted to control the Norwegian government to beat back the communists.
The Coup[]
The 1940 Quisling Coup began when the NS and The Hirden marched in Oslo. The Communists of Norway took advantage and began to march on Oslo. The Hirden and the Communists began to brawl in the streets of Oslo. The Royal Family had fled from Oslo to Elverum. The next day, German Ambassador Curt Brauer would go to Elverum and demand the King (King Haakin II) make Vidkun Quisling the Prime Minister. Haakon would famously say to his cabinet that he would rather abdicate the throne rather then make Quisling the Head of the Government. Then Haakon realized that Quisling's coup might fail and the communists might prevail and finally decided to appoint Quisling as the Prime Minister. The Hirden then (with the help of the army) would finish off the communists and later, Quisling would disband the Communist Party of Norway.
