Fate of Nato[]

Soon after the Goldsboro Disaster, many member states of NATO viewed their ally, the United States, as unstable. The Netherlands ' commitment to NATO plummeted soon after. In 1974, the Netherlands was among the nations that voted to limit intermediate ballistic missiles in Europe in the Treaty of Copenhagen.

NATO became severely weakened afterward, and the Dutch government at one point had wondered about leaving it altogether. The country's foreign policy became much less dominated by the US and its NATO membership.
