New Caledonia is a territory currently administered by the Republic of the French Southern Territories. After gaining de facto independence from France following Doomsday with the metropolis ceasing to exist as a united country, it joined in 1999 the also independent French Polynesia département in a union that would result in the formation of the Republic of the French Southern Territories it is currently administered under.
Nouméa served as the temporary location of the League of Nations headquarters between 2010, after the League had outgrown its initial location in Tonga, and 2015, when it relocated to Cape Town in the Republic of Good Hope as its permanent headquarters. The League's High Commission for Oceania remains in Nouméa.
