New Caledonia is one of the Pacific island states of Cygnia, located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, about 1,210 km east of continental Cygnia, and to the south of the New Hebrides. The main islands of New Caledonia include Grand Island, the Loyalty Islands, the Chesterfield Islands, Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines, and a few remote islets. New Caledonia has a land area of 18,576 km2, making it the third-smallest state in Cygnia, after the New Hebrides and Fiji; it has a population of 271,407 as of 2020, making it the second-least populated state in the Federation, after Gascoyne. New Caledonia is also the newest, having been admitted to the Federation on 5 May 1999.
