New Granada (or Santafé by its capital) was one of the four viceroyalties that Spain had established in the New World.
It was established in 1717, uniting the Hearings of New Granada and Quito, from Perú, and the General Captaincy of Venezuela, from New Spain.
The Viceroyalty lasted until 1853 (de facto, it officially ended in 1883), when an independence movement took control of the government and created the Granadine Federation.
