New Saxony was a colony in Meridia. Since the discovery of the New World, Saxony had tried persistently to obtain a colony there: however, being a small, landlocked German nation in the middle of Europe, the Duchy met with little success. However, following a dispute that led to the Eight Years' War, Saxony made a deal with the Danish and the Hansea, who would each contribute a very small amount of Meridian territory to form a colony under Saxon jurisdiction, and Saxony agreed to join the war on their side, and secure support from various other German states including even Bohemia. However, Saxony failed to persuade any other states to join the war, and all their troops drowned when sailing to Sweden, while their position was further compromised by the Finnish de la Marcks and the Eastern Jungist Church declaring support for the Swedes. Nevertheless, they retained their colony of New Saxony; both Hansea and Denmark were assured they could retake the land anytime they desired, as together they surrounded it, and they did, several years later. The first attempt at a Saxon colony was therefore short-lived but nonetheless more successful than previous attempts.

The Forty Years' War occurred some years later, and as a small theatre of war in North America and Meridia was created, Saxony decided it would try once more to establish a lasting Saxon overseas empire.
