New Teutonia, officially the Kingdom of New Teutonia, is a sovereign country in South America. Its capital is New Augsburg, while its largest city is Caesarea. Along with Mexico, it is one of only two monarchies in the Americas.
Originally a Spanish colony, it was given over to the Fugger German banking family in 1520 by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, who gave them as compensation for several loans given to him by them for his rise to power. Jacob Fugger governed it from Europe via governors under the name Klein-Venedig. Under Anton Fugger, the family was ennobled into the Holy Roman Empire, and the colony became the Duchy of New Teutonia, as a part of the Holy Roman Empire. While still de facto a colony, forced to trade primarily with the rest of the empire, New Teutonia became far more autonomous and developed over time and became the primary destination for German colonists, eager to settle in the New World.
Following the collapse of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, Duke August II declared New Teutonia elevated to the status of a kingdom. While celebrated as "Independence Day" in the country, this changed little in the everyday lives of New Teutonians since the country was more or less independent since the early 18th century, when the Fuggers renegotiated their allegiance to the Habsburgs in the aftermath of the War of Spanish Succession.
Nowadays New Teutonia is a constitutional monarchy with a federal structure. The current monarch is King Maximillian III, while the head of government is the chancellor - currently Angelika Keller.
It is a highly developed country with a strong and diverse economy. It possesses the largest reserve of crude oil in the world, which plays a huge part in its economy. It has the sixth largest economy by nominal GDP and has the largest GDP per capita. It is a founding member of the Caesarean League and is also a member of NATO, the G7 and the UN.
