Newfoundland, officially the Empire of Newfoundland, is a country located on the North American continent bordering the Republic of New Brunswick to the southwest, and the Republic of Quebec to the west. Since the 1970 constitution, Newfoundland has been governed by a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Emperor Francis III is its current head of state, with Kathy Dunderdale serving as Prime Minister and head of government. The original Republic of Newfoundland was founded in 1807 after the Newfoundland Civil War, but was overthrown in 8 years by a group of monarchists who established a military junta that lasted over 150 years. Newfoundland is considered a global superpower, and since the end of World War II has had a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. It is also the founding member of the Newfoundland Imperial Organization for the Promotion of Equality, Democracy, and Friendship, often called just the Imperial, or the NIO for short.
