Alternative History
Nihon no heiwa
Prior to the 1930s in our own timeline, there was a period of democracy in the Empire of Japan known as the "Taishō democracy", which surprisingly fell apart in the 1920s as the military took over. But why did democracy in Japan fail? Well, there were a number of factors, including the Immigration Act of 1924, which prohibited immigration from East Asia, including Japan. This became known in Japan as the "Japanese Exclusion Act", and was one of the few reasons why democracy collapsed and the military took power, leading to the Japanese militaristic expansion in China.

But what if the West was more friendly towards Japan after World War I? What if the Immigration Act of 1924 failed to pass through the United States Congress?

What if there was Nihon no heiwa ("peace in Japan")?
