In 1803, the 20 year old United States of America purchased the territory of Louisiana from Napoleonic France. The nation greatly expanded, both economically and militarily. This timeline explores the possible after effects of if the United States had never accepted the deal.
Point of Divergence and Immediate Effects[]
Senate Votes No[]
In our timeline, the U.S. Senate voted to approve the Louisiana Purchase by a vote of 24 to 7. In this timeline, the Senate was firmer to the original, anti-Imperial sentiment of the U.S.A, and they instead voted narrowly against the purchase on a vote of 17 to 14.
Napoleon was dismayed by this and decided to postpone his invasion of England. Furthermore, he declared the Republic of Louisiana an independent state, under the protection of France. The French Protectorate of Haiti was also formed, however this would not stop the rebellions in Haiti. Great Britain would not acknowledge either of these states; seeing both governments as under the rightful rule of The Empire. George III announced war against the French Republic.
