General Tang Sheng-chi of the Chinese Republic Army ignores Chiang Kai-shek and agrees to a three-day ceasefire with Japanese forces besieging Nanking on December 9, 1937. The result is a relatively peaceful occupation of the city and few atrocities committed by the invaders. There is no world-wide outrage and small, if any impact on Japanese-American relations.
