Nome is a city located in the U.S. state of Alaska. The city located on the southern Seward Peninsula coast on Norton Sound of the Bering Sea. During World War III, Soviet military forces made a surprise attack on Alaska, followed by limited paratrooper drops and amphibious invasion. Nome was under Soviet occupation for brief period up until the Soviets were expelled back to the USSR.
