North America, known in Japanese as Tôbankoku, is a continent in the Western Hemisphere, north of South America (Amerika in Japanese). To its east is the Atlantic Ocean, to its west the Eastern Ocean, and to its southeast, the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

North America is dominated by nations descended from four great Eurasian powers - Spain, France, and the British from Europe and Japan from Asia. North America was the last major holdout against the metric system and most of its nations still had non-decimalized currencies until the adoption of the North American Dollar. However, they had all simplified their currencies to two levels (for example, the North American Confederation has eliminated the shilling level).

There are two canals connecting the Atlantic and Eastern Oceans cutting through Central America. The northern one, known as the Nicragua Canal, cuts through the Mexican Province of Nicaragua and the Mosquito Kingdom (part of the NAC), while the southern one, the Panama Canal, cuts through the Colombian province of Panama.

The nations of North America are, from west to east and north to south:
