North America, known in Japanese as Tôbankoku, is a continent in the Western Hemisphere, north of South America (Amerika in Japanese). To its east is the Atlantic Ocean, to its west the Eastern Ocean, and to its southeast, the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.
North America is dominated by nations descended from four great Eurasian powers - Spain, France, and the British from Europe and Japan from Asia. North America was the last major holdout against the metric system and most of its nations still have non-decimalized currencies. However, they have all simplified their currencies to two levels (for example, the North American Confederation has eliminated the shilling level)
