Mauritania, a Kingodm which existed in northern Africa, was divided into many separate Provinces. Mauritania Numidia, which took its later name of Numidia as the title of its Province, was one of these. Mauritania Caesarensis was another name of this province, after the name of the capital Caesarea (Cherchell). The Numidians did not have the resources to start the massive irrigation projects in provinces like Mauritania or Aegyptus but they were an important part of the Western Mediterranean economy.
