Operation Ransack (Portuguese: ) refers to a major Brazilian counteroffensive in late 1983 and early 1984 to dislodge Argentinean forces from Parana, specifically the Curitiba region which was then under siege, hoping for a successful repeat of the previous two counteroffensives engaged when Curitiba specifically, and Rio Grande do Sul generally, had been exposed. Despite some initial successes in mid-December when the operation was launched along the offensive's northern salient, a more disciplined combined forces defense by Argentina, which included an air and sea advantage they had not enjoyed in previous pushes into Brazil, exhausted the Brazilian Army. Ransack is considered the breaking point in the southern front - Curitiba's siege would officially end in March of 1984, Brazilian forces then retreated to secure all approaches to Sao Paolo for the upcoming March to Rio.
