Operation Saladin, alternatively known as the Great Turkish Offensive or the Carpathian Offensive, was a major military campaign in the summer of 1941 by the Turkish Empire against the French Empire in support of the rebel European Alliance. The offensive resulted in the use of 1,375,000 infantrymen as well as fifteen armored tank divisions (two-thirds of all Turkish tanks) as well as almost the entire European contingent of the Turkish Air Force. The offensive was a tremendous success, changing the tide of the war, and re-establishing Turkey as a major world power. Operation Saladin also saved Sebastien Bonaparte's Allied forces from likely defeat in the muddled, ongoing fighting in Hungary and gave the Allies the reinforcements they needed to execute that winter's Bavarian Campaign and the fighting in Germany and eastern France the following spring.
