Durring the [[Indonesian Civil War (1983 Doomsday)|Indonesian Civil War]] West Papua became a independent nation from [[Indonesia (1983: Doomsday)|Indonesia]]. It agreed to be absourbed into Papua New Guinea 3 years later.

History

The country became independent from Australia in 1975. However only the eastern half of the island was part of this country. The former Indonesia province of Papua  became an independent state as a result of the Indonesian civil war. Papua agreed to be absorbed into Papua New Guinea on April 4th 2003.

International relations

Papua New Guinea is a member of the League of Nations.

It is also an Associated State of the Commonwealth of Australia and New Zealand. It governs itself but it's protection and foreign affairs (apart from membership in the League of Nations) is handled by ANZC.
