In the alternate timeline of Pax Swedeanica, Sweden joins the race for colonies in the 1600s (the point of divergence is 1604 with the formation of the Swedish Empire) in North America and Africa as well as Spain, Portugal, England, France, and the Netherlands. It establishes control over OTL American states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, and Manitoba by the beginning of the Six Years War with Great Britain where it loses all of the land that makes up OTL United States in the 1780s.
However, after that, Sweden conquered all of OTL Canada, and begins to establish colonies in the Ivory Coast, and OTL Democratic Republic of Congo and surrounding areas. Following the Battle of Saigon in the 1700s, Sweden established control over OTL Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and parts of Thailand. It also conquered the north-eastern part of the island of New Guinea and the entire island of Madagascar, with many other colonial possessions.
Sweden for over a century is the foremost global power economically and militarily and adopts the role of global policeman, similar to the British Empire in OTL. This period of "Swedish peace" or "Pax Swedeanica" lasted from 1795 to 1902. Isolationism from other countries except to ensure peace globally and stability to the Empire lasted from the end of the Colombian Wars with Spain and newly unified Italy in 1795, to the outbreak of the Great War in 1902 where Sweden hastily formed an alliance with the United Kingdom and Germany. Following the end of the war in 1908 and subsequent peace treaties, the League of Nations was founded, and Sweden played a prominent role in its creation. However, a second global conflict occurred during the 1940s, leading to the decline of the Swedish colonial Empire, but not the overall power of Sweden, and most colonies gained independence in the next 60 years peacefully.
